**Department summary**
The Office of Lifelong Learning and Physician Learning Program (L3PLP) is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FoMD), and works to enhance the knowledge and skills of community practitioners in quality improvement initiatives. PLP's mandate is to support physicians and teams in advancing practice by addressing learning needs, providing information, practice data, feedback reports, along with knowledge transfer activities. We are looking for an Social Sciences Lead that cares about patient care for the betterment of healthcare within Alberta.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the social sciences leads our qualitative and implementation science portfolio and is part of our leadership team. In addition to managing the staff in your portfolio, you’ll work closely with other PLP colleagues, including research associates, postdoctoral fellows, and our physician leads on several projects simultaneously. With experience working in health care, you have a proven ability to effectively engage and collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders, and build strong relationships. With your deep knowledge of qualitative methods and theory, you’ll lead or participate in activities and projects that benefit from qualitative methods as a means to understanding and engaging, and will collaborate on dissemination of findings with various audiences. **Responsibilities**
- Setting portfolio and program objectives, planning, implementing, and overseeing activities for implementation science and/or qualitative PLP projects.
- Managing staff in the qualitative and implementation science portfolio, including performance management, recruitment and selection, managing assignments, and supporting team members.
- Liaising with system stakeholders throughout the project life cycle
- Designing projects and evaluation studies, determining the most appropriate methodology, and developing data collection protocols/instruments.
- Analyzing qualitative data in a rigorous and theory-informed manner
- Engaging with community partners, patient partners, and facilitating patient advisory group meetings
- Supervising research assistants, summer students, and co-supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows
- Plans, writes, and disseminates academic output for quality improvement and/or implementation science projects through peer-reviewed publications, lectures and participation in conferences, either individually or as part of a project team
- Participates in strategic planning for the short and long-term success of L3PLP, and supports program reporting activities
**Qualifications**
- PhD in anthropology or sociology (preferred); alternately, a PhD in a different, relevant health or social science field must include a deep understanding of qualitative methods and social science theory.
- Postdoctoral training or equivalent experience is required
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of implementation frameworks, knowledge translation frameworks, and related methodologies.
- Excellent analytical ability and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to disseminate knowledge through peer-reviewed publications and lectures, and experience with grant writing
- Experience in community-based, participatory research, and stakeholder engagement
- Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, problem-solving abilities, and results achievement
- Positive attitude and ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this position has a term length of **2 years**, with possibility of extension, and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and an annual salary range of $74,084 - $101,888. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
