**Salary**: $3,241.74 to $4,362.44 bi-weekly ($86,609 - $113,859/ year)

The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), under the authority of the Emergency Management Act, is accountable and responsible to the GoA, to Albertans, to their communities, and to industry for the protection of people, their property, and the environment from the effects of emergency events. Alberta relies on a decentralized “system” for managing the various types of emergency events that occur every year. The AEMA accomplishes its objectives by leading the co-ordination, collaboration and co-operation within this diverse system.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Services with AEMA’s Strategy and Systems Support Branch, the Manager of Disaster Risk Reduction plays a pivotal role in leading the creation and implementation of the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), coordinating the participation of senior Ministry and Agency staff in federal, provincial, and territorial emergency management forums, and acting as the Secretariat for the Assistant Deputy Ministers' Public Safety Committee. You will also play a leadership role in the Logistics Branch during Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre activations.

**Responsibilities include**:

- **Disaster Risk Reduction -** Guidance and advice is provided on the proper identification of disaster risk, development of risk treatment strategies, and implementation and evaluation of those strategies.
- **Business and Operational Planning Coordination and Evaluation -** A culture of evaluation and accountability is established across business and operational planning process in line with government requirements.
- **Support for Interdepartmental and Intergovernmental Tables -** Provides support on Ministry and Agency senior staffs' engagement in intergovernmental emergency management tables.
- **Effective Stakeholder Relations -** Strong working relationships are sustained to enable coordinated and consistent policy and legislation in relation to emergency management that meets government and public priorities.

**Qualifications**:
**Required**:
University degree in a field related to the position assignment (e.g. Public Administration, Political Science, Law, and Emergency Management) PLUS four years related experience.

**Equivalency**:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

**You MUST also have**:

- Knowledge of risk management principles and practices
- Knowledge of Intergovernmental relations principles and practices
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with policy and program development
- Experience with project management theories, principles, and practices
