Under the general direction of the Insurance Strategies Administrative Officer is responsible for investigating, negotiating, and
administering moderate to complex claims involving recoveries from outside third parties. Will work with a high degree of initiative,
discretion, self-direction and customer service in liaising with other groups and departments. Prepare, file and serve legal documents
for Small Claims Court actions and when necessary coordinate accounts for legal action by Court of King's Bench and attending
these hearings. Provide support and functional direction to staff in other departments.
**_ Responsibilities:_**
- Administer property damage recoveries by investigating and documenting the details of the incident from outside contacts,
witnesses, and accident reports; establishing responsibility for the damages, obtaining repair costs and initiating recovery from
the responsible party.
- Liaison with Line Management and the Damage Prevention & Services Supervisor on individual losses to identify the causes
of loss, possible loss trends, and to evaluate possible loss prevention and/or loss reduction methods.
- Review work orders and billings for accuracy and appropriateness. Request additional information where necessary.
- Contact responsible party and coordinate recovery of damages.
- Negotiate disputed claims either for liability apportionment and/or for costing.
- Investigate and adjust disputed claims where necessary.
- Develop and process for filing, serving of legal documents and present case in Small Claims Court. Co-ordinate accounts for
- legal action by referring to and assisting Law Department for Court of King's Bench suits.
- Provide support and direction to district and field staff related to property damages, vehicle accidents and insurance
- requirements.
- Process payments received from third party contractors, insurers and individuals.
- Establish and maintain effective contact with internal staff, outside insurance adjusters, brokers, law enforcement agencies
- and related industry personnel.
- Prepare month end and quarterly reports.
- Negotiate and settle total losses of Manitoba Hydro vehicles.
**_ Qualifications:_**
- Four year degree in related field such as Business Administration, Commerce, Finance with a minimum of five years of
directly related experience in a claims handling environment;
OR
- Two year diploma in related field such as Business Administration and seven years of directly related experience in a claims
handling environment.
- A Certificate in the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) program with a focus on claims adjusting and the courses directly

- Thorough knowledge of the claims management processes, including principles, practices and techniques in investigating and
- adjusting a variety of liability claims.
- Experience in preparing, serving legal documents and presenting in Small Claims Court.
- Proven negotiating skills necessary to settle claims.
- Automobile adjusting experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work with electronic office support systems and computer software such as SAP, Outlook, and
- Microsoft Office software.
- Demonstrated high level of accuracy, showing good judgment and discretion under difficult settlement situations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to maintain good public relations and work with staff in a team
- environment.
- Must be self-motivated and capable of working under limited supervision.
- Possess a valid, minimum Class 5, Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
**_ Salary Range_**
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $39.27-$54.35 Hourly,
$75,242.70-$104,154.96 Annually.
