Records Specialist, Data Quality

Overview:
Reporting to the Manager, Data Quality this role will be a key member of the data quality team, providing key support in sustaining the ongoing quality, accuracy and completeness of the operational data for the Office of Advancement utilizing the data quality life cycle: assessments, design, transformation, and monitoring resulting in measurable and sustained data integrity.
This role works closely with all Advancement teams and other partners to ensure data quality standards, policies, and best practices are understood and applied consistently across the organization to establish the data quality team as a trusted partner.
The Records Specialist, Data Quality is empowered to work independently with teams and projects across the organization, supporting the goal to advance data quality management.
**Responsibilities**:
- Facilitate cross-functional data information gathering and work with others to implement data quality and management initiatives including knowledge sharing sessions, prioritize remediation, supporting documentation for requirements, planning and design activities
- Responsible for the execution the data change requests & issue management processes ensuring the appropriate engagement of the required stakeholders; work with stakeholders to develop practical strategies, plans, and solutions to identified issues and problems
- Ensure prompt and thorough resolution or escalation of data related issues, decisions, and changes and track issue resolution lifecycle
- Support data quality roles in ensuring compliance with data quality standards and processes
- Understand University of Waterloo Office of Advancement business functions, activities, and transactions, as well as data quality best practices to contribute practical solutions for both structured and unstructured data
- Assist with the design and development of monitoring solutions in support of key data quality focus areas
- Contribute to the development of reporting needs to monitor data compliance as well as OKRs and metrics to gauge the health and maturity of the data quality program
- Collaborate and contribute to the development of appropriate materials, training, and be the change advocate to drive data quality best practices
- Work closely with the systems team during the development of new information and data quality related functions, including requirements, validation, and testing
- Primary point of contact for all Advancement teams to resolve data quality issues
- Is knowledgeable, trained, and able to perform all functions of the Alumni and Donor Services tasks as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education and/or equivalent work experience
- 2-3 years’ experience of data management on an enterprise level database
- Knowledge of University of Waterloo and Advancement policies and procedures would be an asset
- Experience in an employed or volunteer capacity in the charitable or not for profit sector is preferred
- Ability to take initiative, influence and recommend business improvements
- Creative and strategic thinker
- Excellent donor-centered communication skills, both written and oral
- Proficient database skills preferably with Raiser’s Edge; experience with alternative customer relationship management (CRM) database or financial system may be substituted
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete work in a timely manner
- Ability to handle confidential matters with a high level of integrity
- Able to work in an independent and team environment
