Under the general supervision of the Child Care Director and under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director, the Early Childhood Educator is responsible to maintain and develop the children’s program with their group of children in the Downtown Childcare Centres. This team member must adhere to all the policies and regulations as set out in the Parent Handbook and Child Care Staff Manual.
The position entails working Monday-Friday for a total of 37.5 hours per week.
This role primarily involves supporting a child with special needs while ensuring their full participation in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environment. The successful applicant will work closely with educators to implement individualized strategies that promote the child’s safety, growth, and engagement while also contributing to the overall care and programming for all children.
**Responsibilities**:
- Provide direct support to a child with special needs, ensuring their well-being, comfort, and developmental progress
- Implement individualized strategies to enhance the child’s participation and learning experience
- Foster meaningful interactions between the child and their peers, promoting social and emotional development
- Adapt and modify activities based on the child’s needs while aligning with Play and Exploration principles
- Work collaboratively with educators to maintain an inclusive and supportive environment
- Maintain open communication with parents, caregivers, and other stakeholders to ensure consistency in support
- Demonstrate patience, flexibility, and a problem-solving approach to challenges
- Ensure a safe and respectful environment that encourages the child’s independence and confidence
*Communicate professionally, effectively, and respectfully with children, colleagues, and family members
**Qualifications**:
Required
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
- CPR
- Early Childhood Education Level I or in Progress
- Experience working with children
Asset
- ECE related experience
- Knowledge of child development stages
