The Cost Accounting Manager is a key member of the Finance team, responsible for overseeing and managing the cost accounting functions within the organization. This role involves analyzing, tracking, and reporting on the costs associated with the company's operations, products, and services. The Cost Accounting Manager plays a crucial role in providing accurate financial information that aids in strategic decision-making and operational efficiency. A team player at heart, you build strong relationships across the organization to develop an understanding of business operations. You excel at building and establishing processes and reports and can analyze the findings and you are able to tell a story behind the numbers in an easy-to-understand manner.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

**Cost Analysis and Reporting**
- Perform all aspects of cost accounting including the preparation, review and analysis, and related month-end processes
- Analyse the costs of materials, labour, product inventory costing, standard costing, overhead allocation to determine accurate product costs
- Prepare and present detailed cost reports to senior management, highlighting cost drivers and areas for improvement
- Monitor and analyse cost variances and recommend corrective actions as needed
- Ensure all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial accounting activities are completed in an accurate and timely manner
- Provide costing assessments in a Stage Gate methodology on potential new product launches
- Monitor product, project, and operating costs to identify and implement cost-savings
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiency improvements
- Continuously review cost accounting processes and systems, recommending enhancements where necessary
- Monitor actual costs against budgeted amounts and investigate significant variances
- Provide insights into cost trends and potential budgetary impacts to support the budgeting process

**Inventory** & Cost Allocation**
- Oversee the valuation of inventory and ensure accurate recording of inventory costs
- Participate in quarterly inventory related items as needed
- Control monthly inventory counts and annual audit of inventory
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts related to production costs and inventory
- Coordinate audit-related activities related to cost accounting and inventory valuation
- Ensure accurate allocation of costs to products and services for pricing decisions
- Analyse pricing scenarios and their potential impact on profitability

**Compliance & Auditing**
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations
- Prepare and provide support for external audits related to cost accounting
- Maintain accurate and organized records of cost-related information for audit purposes
- Provide financial analysis and cost-related insights to support strategic decision-making
- Offer recommendations to senior management based on cost analysis and potential outcomes
- Identify potential risks associated with cost accounting practices and implement controls to mitigate them
- Monitor and address any internal or external factors that could impact cost structures
- Assist with Audit preparation, or as instructed by the Controller or the Director of Finance
- Work with Cultivation and Operations to ensure compliance with internal controls

**Stakeholder Communication**
- Communicate cost-related information clearly and effectively to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant cost-related information
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment within the team
- Participate in cross-functional teams to assess the financial viability of new projects and initiatives
- Collaborate with operations teams to implement process changes that optimize cost structures without compromising quality
- Collaborate with product development and sales teams to determine appropriate pricing strategies
