Service Technician

**Job Purpose**
An Automotive Service Technician repairs and maintains vehicles, diagnosing issues and performing necessary repairs. They work on a variety of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems, and also conduct routine maintenance like oil changes and tire rotations. Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to diagnose problems are crucial for this role.
**Core Accountabilities**
- **Diagnose and Repair**: Inspect and diagnose malfunctions, certify warranty repairs, perform repairs to standard on new and used vehicles and conduct road tests to ensure quality all while following dealership standards.
- **Preventative Maintenance**: Perform routine services like oil changes, fluid level checks, and tire rotations.
- **System Repairs**: Repair or replace parts in engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, and other vehicle systems.
- **Inspections**: To ensure vehicles meet provincial requirements for safety and emissions.
- **Communication**: Explain technical issues and recommended repairs to service advisors or customers in a clear and understandable manner.
- **Documentation**: Accurately record work performed and parts used on repair orders.
- **Maintenance and Cleanliness**: Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
- **Quality Control**: Ensure all repairs meet dealership and manufacturer standards.
- **Parts Management**: Order and manage parts required for repairs.
- **Safety-Conscious**: Maintain compliance with regulations, such as safety requirements (including proper use of protective equipment), hazardous waste disposal, Canadian Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and all other policies and procedures as required.
- **Training**: Stay current with technical skills and attend sponsored training classes.

**Requirements**:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Automotive Service Technician Trade Certification.
- Additional Certifications in Volvo automotive repair is an asset.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
- **Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License**: With a clear driver’s abstract. Essential for road testing and vehicle movement.
- **Technical Skills**: Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic skills.
- **Troubleshooting**: Ability to diagnose complex automotive problems.
- **Manual Dexterity**: Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
- **Communication**: Ability to explain technical information clearly.
- **Customer Service**: Providing excellent service to customers.
- **Teamwork**: Working effectively with other technicians, service advisors and staff.
- **Problem-Solving**: Identifying and resolving technical issues.
- **Physical Stamina**: Ability to perform tasks that require bending, lifting, and working in various positions.

**Working Conditions**
- **Physical Demands**:Technicians spend a significant amount of time standing, bending, and working in awkward positions. They may need to lift heavy parts and use tools that require physical effort.
- **Environmental Factors**: They work in well-lit and ventilated repair shops, but may encounter grease, oil, and other fluids.
- **Time Pressure and Stress**: The job can be fast-paced, requiring them to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- **Potential Hazards**:They may be exposed to hazardous materials, noise, and potential injuries from working with machinery.
