The McCain Centre and YWHO are seeking a full-time, Scientific Associate for a one year contract to take a key role supporting a Health Canada funded project which will optimize mental health for youth across Canada by developing a secure, state-of-the-art Integrated Youth Services (IYS) data platform and IYS data federation in two provinces, Ontario (i.e., YWHO) and British Columbia (i.e., Foundry). This initiative will be the cornerstone to creating the first pan-Canadian IYS Learning Health System (LHS) integrating the efforts of youth MH researchers, service providers, youth, family members and system decision-makers/policymakers towards the common goal of improving mental health and substance use outcomes for youth and their families. This project will set the stage for growth as emerging provincial and territorial IYS begin to standardize service-related data collection.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, and together with youth researchers, service providers, youth, family members and system decision-makers/policymakers, the Scientific Associate will play a key role in supporting implementation of the following activities:
- Review existing IYS frameworks and indicators for individual, service, organization, and system level findings, and perform a gap analysis using systematic approaches (e.g. scoping review, Delphi, deliberative dialogue)
- Engage pan-Canadian stakeholders to establish guiding principles for a governance framework that will emphasize equity-centred, youth governance
- Engage pan-Canadian stakeholders about the core data elements, types, and requirements for standardize data collection in IYS settings
- Review existing legal, ethical, privacy and security requirements and policies as they relate to mental health and substance use service data within IYS settings
- Support the development of training materials, data standards, and policy documents
- Other responsibilities include supporting the scientific team in creating, managing and monitoring detailed project work plans; supervising research staff; guiding the preparation of progress reports to the project funder; working with project consultants; and preparing presentations, manuscripts, and project reports.
- Opportunities for publishing research articles, grant writing mentorship, and academic and non-academic presentations will be offered
**Qualifications**:
The successful applicant will have experience working with interdisciplinary teams and managing complex projects. Superior interpersonal and organizational skills along with analytical and problem solving skills are required. The successful applicant will be a self-starter able to manage multiple projects with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail. Demonstrated superior communication skills, i.e., ability to explain complex issues in plain language both verbally and in writing in a prior work setting is required. The successful applicant must be able to lead and work effectively within an interdisciplinary team and interact comfortably with diverse community partners. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be a strong asset.
