The Mentoring Coordinator is a key member of the program team and advances the agency mission by supporting families, children and youth, and volunteers. The Mentoring Coordinator - Volunteer Assessment/Screening role has central focus on: conducting enrollment interviews and child safety training with adult volunteer applicants, and providing a professional assessment and recommendation for participation in the Big Brothers Community Program. A _key component of this role is to ensure we are bringing safe adults into the lives of the children/youth we serve at BBGV. This role is responsible for assessing the safety and eligibility of potential volunteers with the use of in-depth interviews, references, training, and more. _

The Mentoring Coordinator role is a balance of actively interviewing and screening volunteer applicants, guiding mentoring relationships for safety and coaching for support, facilitating training sessions for program participants, and maintaining accurate and timely casework management and documentation for community based mentoring programs across Greater Vancouver.

**Car required for driving between office and program sites and community meetings within Greater Vancouver.**

**HYBRID - Hybrid at office, program site/schools, home.**

**Full time - 35 hour work week; Permanent.**

A SNEAK PEEK AT THE GREAT THINGS YOU’LL BE DOING
- Enrolment, interview, and assessment of adult volunteer applicants _with the use of in-depth interviews, references, training_ for the Big Brothers Community Program.
- Engage with volunteer inquiries to determine eligibility and readiness to commit to the program requirements.
- Develop your leadership skills as you supervise and support Mentors (adult and teen) and Mentees (children/youth), and parents/guardians in their mentoring relationships.
- Maintain accurate confidential case management and file records, ensure that all required documentation is complete and in accordance to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada’s National Standards.
- Intentionally match adult volunteers with children/ youth to ensure positive and committed mentoring relationships are formed.
- Maintain ongoing contact with Mentor, Mentee, and Parent/Guardian to ensure accountability, support, and healthy relationships, where child safety is upheld.
- Facilitate mentorship and safety training and workshops.
- Engage volunteers and families in problem-solving processes where required, and discuss client planning and concerns with the Community Program Manager.
- Provide coverage for mentorship programs in schools and community centres (as needed).
- Attendance at occasional evening and weekend events and activities that support relationship building between mentors, mentees, families, and mentoring coordinators, as required.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or 2 year diploma in social work, child and youth care, family studies, psychology or other related field. **This is a mandatory qualification as required by the National Standards of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.**:

- Relevant experience in the social services and community services sector with families, children and youth, in a case management capacity.
- Experience conducting screening/intake interviews to determine eligibility for program or service.
- **A valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for this position.**:

- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends, as required

**Skills**:

- Interview and assessment skills with adults, volunteers, parents/guardians, children/youth, to determine eligibility for a program or service - or transferrable experience.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and timely casework management, documentation, and detailed case noting.
- Strong relationship building and communication skills to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, parents/guardians, and community agencies and organizations.
