The Mentoring Coordinator is a key member of the program team and advances the agency mission by supporting families, children and youth, and volunteers. The Mentoring Coordinator role has central focus on: actively running mentoring programs for children and youth at schools across our service area, guiding mentoring relationships for safety and coaching support, facilitating training sessions for program participants, and maintaining accurate and timely casework management and documentation. In addition, the role involves conducting enrollment interviews and training with teen and adult volunteers, parents/guardians and children/youth, and providing a professional assessment and recommendation for participation in the Big Brothers Programs.

**Car required for driving between office and program sites and community meetings within Greater Vancouver.**

**HYBRID - Hybrid at office, program site/schools, home.**

**Full time - 35 hour work week; Permanent.**

A SNEAK PEEK AT THE GREAT THINGS YOU’LL BE DOING
- Facilitate and coordinate mentoring programs for Big Buddies and Little Buddies (high school age youth mentors with elementary school aged mentees).
- Develop your leadership skills as you supervise and support Mentors (adult and teen) and Mentees (children/youth), and parents/guardians in their mentoring relationships.
- Work with school partners - teachers or school liaisons to enhance program success.
- Complete recruitment of teen mentors to build toward full capacity programs.
- Assessment and screening interviews for teen mentor volunteers.
- Maintain accurate confidential case management and file records, ensure that all required documentation is complete and in accordance to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada’s National Standards.
- Maintain ongoing consistent contact with Mentor, Mentee, and Parent/Guardian to ensure accountability, support, and healthy relationships, where child safety is upheld.
- Facilitate mentorship and safety training and workshops.
- Engage volunteers and families in problem-solving processes where required, and discuss client planning and concerns with the relevant Program Manager.
- Attendance at occasional evening and weekend events and activities that support relationship building, as required.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or 2 year diploma in social work, child and youth care, family studies, psychology or other related field. **This is a mandatory qualification as required by the National Standards of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.**:

- Demonstrated relevant experience in the social services and community services sector with families, children and youth, and volunteers in a case management capacity. Experience working in school environments an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the principles and values of equity, inclusivity, anti-racism, reconciliation, and accessibility.
- **A valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for this position.**:

- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends, as required

**Skills**:

- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and timely casework management, documentation, and detailed case noting.
- Strong relationship building and communication skills to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, parents/guardians, and community agencies and organizations.
- Knowledge of mentoring theory, principles, and practices
- Knowledge of child safety, child abuse prevention practices, and trauma-informed care.
- High attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Solid group facilitation and presentation skills
- Strong organization and time management skills to maintain accurate file management.
- Excellent problem solving ability and resourcefulness.
- Demonstrated abilities using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database experience, experience with Microsoft Dynamics (SDP) an asset.
