Mentoring Coordinator

Summary
The Mentoring Coordinator is a key member of the program team and advances the agency mission by supporting volunteers, families, children and youth. Central aspects of role: Coordinate mentorship programs, facilitate training sessions, guide mentoring relationships for safety and coaching support, and conduct screening/enrolment interviews and assessments with adult volunteers, parents/guardians, and/or children/youth.
The Mentoring Coordinator role is a balance of actively running mentoring programs for children and youth, while maintaining accurate and timely casework management and documentation for school, math, and community based mentoring programs across Greater Vancouver.
**Two positions available: full time, permanent. Car required for driving between office and program sites within Greater Vancouver.**

A SNEAK PEEK AT THE GREAT THINGS YOU’LL BE DOING
- Develop your leadership skills as you supervise and support Mentors (adult and teen) and Mentees (children/youth), and parents/guardians in their mentoring relationships.
- Maintain ongoing contact with Mentor, Mentee, and Parent/Guardian to ensure accountability, support, and healthy relationships, where child safety is upheld.
- Maintain accurate confidential case management and file records, ensure that all required documentation is complete and in accordance to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada’s National Standards.
- Coordinate and run mentorship programs in schools and community centres.
- Assessment interviews and screening of adult and teen Mentor volunteers.
- Enrolment and screening interviews with children/youth Mentees and their parents/guardians.
- Facilitate mentorship and safety training and workshops.
- Engage volunteers and families in problem-solving processes where required, and discuss client planning and case conferencing concerns with your Supervisor.
- Provide program coverage support to other staff, as required.
- Attendance at occasional evening and weekend training workshops, events, and activities that support relationship building between mentors, mentees, families, and mentoring coordinators, as required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or 2 year diploma in social work, child and youth care, family studies, psychology or other related field. **This is a mandatory qualification as required by the National Standards of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.**:
- Relevant experience in the social services and community services sector with children, youth, and families; preferably related to mentoring.
- Experience working within a community service or school-based environment.
- **A valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for this position.**:
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends, as required
**Skills**:
- Knowledge of mentoring theory, principles, and practices
- Knowledge of child safety, child abuse prevention practices, and trauma-informed care.
- Strong relationship building and communication skills to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and community agencies and organizations.
- High attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Solid group facilitation and presentation skills
- Strong organization and time management skills to maintain accurate file management.
- Excellent problem solving ability and resourcefulness.
- Demonstrated abilities using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database experience, experience with Microsoft Dynamics (SDP) an asset.
