**HOURS**: 21 hours a week (primarily weekdays with some weekends, evenings)***POSITION PURPOSE**:
YWCA Peterborough Haliburton provides safe, secure, confidential crisis, and support services to women and their children in Haliburton and Peterborough Counties who have experienced abuse while working within the YWCA philosophy and policy guidelines.
Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, the Communications Coordinator - Philanthropy is responsible for the development and the implementation of philanthropic internal and external communications and public relations programs and activities of the YWCA. The Communications Coordinator - Philanthropy is responsible for implementing philanthropic capacity building programs to strengthen communication skills of the YWCA staff.
**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Work with the Director of Philanthropy to set realistic goals, develop annual and project-specific action plans, and evaluate projects.
- Create and develop printed and electronic materials promoting YWCA programs and activities, fundraising events and annual campaigns.
- Design and produce effective internal and external communications materials such as YWCA newsletters, annual reports, brochures and handbooks, slide deck presentations, press releases, online, newspaper and radio advertisements, direct mail and event promotional materials including selection of content, researching and writing articles, preparing layout, coordinating production and working with external resources as required.
- Develop and steward strong media relationships with local print and radio outlets.
- Collaborate with relevant teams to develop professional and consistent content and materials for YWCA presentations.
- Coordinate the production of promotional and stewardship videos.
- Ensure consistent and accurate content across multiple platforms and campaigns.
- Prepare reports as directed.
- Demonstrate behaviours, actions and attitudes that are consistent with YWCA’s vision, mission and values.
- Ensure effective and professional communications with all internal/external contacts such as to respond to employees, supervisors, volunteers, donors, community members, community networks and the media.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization in order to build trust and confidence in the services provided.
- Share information according to privacy and/or confidentiality guidelines.
- Ensure appropriate communication with manager at appropriate time.
- Respect ethnic, spiritual, linguistic, familial and cultural differences.
**QUALIFICATIONS**/
**REQUIREMENTS**:
- Solid knowledge of Adobe software, such as InDesign and alternative graphic design programs such as Canva
- Experience in website management (WordPress, Raisin), digital communications and social media scheduling software (Constant Contact)
- Knowledge with database software (DonorPerfect) would be an asset
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Commitment to constructive, meaningful and timely interactions with all staff in various roles
- Ability to think critically with attention to detail and consideration of both intended and unintended outcomes
- Solid understanding and commitment to quality and best practice
- Good ability to analyze information, problem-solve and make good decisions/recommendations.
- A confident communicator and presenter
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design, professional printing/publishing skills are essential, including ability to present concepts verbally
- Superior project management and time management skills
- A wide degree of creativity and latitude
- Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media
- Self-directed with a good ability to organize, plan, prioritize and refocus.
- Accountability for ones’ actions and decisions within the scope of the position and referring issues/problems/events to the supervisor as required
- Flexible, adaptable and responsive to change
- Ability to deal with sensitive and personal information in a confidential manner
- Acts with integrity, trustworthiness, humility, transparency and compassion
- Ability to work with and meet tight timelines when needed
- Understanding of feminism and women's based organizations an asset
- Personal experience with gender-based violence an asset
- A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Valid Driver’s License, reliable access to vehicle with appropriate insurance
