Trans-Northern Pipelines Inc. (TNPI) operates regulated pipelines to safely transport the refined petroleum products (gasoline, diesel, aviation, and heating fuel) used by Canadian businesses and consumers every day. These pipelines connect refineries in Edmonton to Calgary, including the Calgary International Airport; and refineries in Nanticoke, Ont., and Montreal to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), with lateral pipelines to Ottawa as well as to Pearson International Airport and Pierre-Elliot Trudeau International Airport. This position is accountable for monitoring environmental compliance across the company and is expected to interface closely with internal and external stakeholders associated with TNPIs development, construction, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning activities. Performance standards include but are not limited to air/water/land/species permitting & management, regulatory agency interface, waste compliance, incident investigation, compliance reporting, environmental plans, and record keeping.

**OEMS**

This position is accountable for ensuring that all aspects of work comply with safe work practices, all applicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements and TNPI’s Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS).

**Security, Environment and Health & Safety**

This position performs their job effectively safely, securely, and in a manner protective of the environment, and complies with TNPI Safety and Environmental Absolutes.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Assurance**
- Conducts environmental field inspections of pipeline/facility construction, maintenance, operations and decommissioning activities, as well as Environmental Site Assessment and Remedial projects.
- Monitors the implementation of the Environmental Protection Program (EPP) and Site-Specific Environmental Protection Plans (SSEPPs).
- Prepares inspection reports and maintains file information.
- Influences environmental protection efforts in an operations setting using non-authoritative leadership (NAL) skills.


**Subject Matter Expertise**
- Assists in the implementation of the Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) Element 13B - Environment Protection, including assisting with any gap closure plans.
- Completes the Environmental review for the Pre-Disturbance Environmental Screening process.
- Routinely attends departmental, program and project meetings and occasionally prepares and delivers presentations on relevant environmental content.
- Attends environmental training and exercises to promote environmental initiatives.

**Stakeholder Relations**
- When required, represents TNPI on environmental matters.
- Provides support to develop environmental reports and letters to regulators as required by regulations, Orders and Information Requests.
- Assists in the preparation of presentations to stakeholders (regulatory authorities, agencies, municipalities, leadership, owners, etc.).
- Participates in annual performance reviews of environmental service providers.

**Safety & Environmental Initiatives**
- Promote “zero incident” safety culture and support appropriate programs to achieve the target of no harm to people and environment.
- Where required, support the Environment Team Lead to implement new environmental initiatives.
- Recommends and assists in the development of appropriate environmental training for employees, as needed.

**Key Performance Measures**
- Monitors and appropriately contributes actions to meet or exceed established Environmental Protection Program Key Performance Measures.
- Assists with reporting on environmental Key Performance Measures.

**Events, Investigation & Reporting**
- Promotes and assists (where necessary) the reporting of environmental near misses, HIDs (hazards identification) and incidents (spills, releases, LOPCs and non-compliances).
