**Position Description**:
Under the direction of the Experiential Learning Manager, Camps and working closely with other Experiential Learning Team members, the Experiential Learning Specialist, Camps will be responsible for developing excellent STEAM programs for Science Camps. Programs will be developed to enhance and build on the BC school curriculum, to provide experiences not offered in the classroom and will build into a larger library of Science Camp curriculums that run year-round at Science World.

The Experiential Learning Specialist, Camps will also act in the operational role of camps supervisor when camps are in session. As camps supervisor your energy sets the tone for the day, this duty will involve (but is not limited to) supporting with program delivery, supporting with camps logistics, responding to call-outs for behavior or emotional support of campers, supervising check-in and check-out, providing basic first aid to campers, staff supervision and scheduling, parent communications and working closely with the Visitor Experience team to provide general support and problem solving for the team.

This role will also involve various administrative and operational duties that ensure the ongoing success and growth of the Science Camp program, Including assisting with the recruitment. Supervision, support and evaluation of High-School aged volunteers as part of our Jr Camp Leader program, delivering camps taster sessions to external groups, and learning various shows and awe-inspiring scientific demonstrations to wow our audiences

As a facility, Science World is generally open to the public seven days a week, with some extended evening hours in the summer months. Typical office hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am - 5:30pm, with front-facing and operational teams also working a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays and evenings. Hours of work and other related requirements will be scheduled according to business needs and this may include special events on evenings, weekends and holidays.

**Important Availability Commitment**:
Science Camps operate seasonally during school vacations, summer, spring and winter. As this position is essential to camp operations, it will not be possible to take vacation during the following periods:
Summer Season Mid July - Early September
Winter Season Various Days Late December - Early January
Spring Season March
Other Days Provincial and District Pro-D days

Camps do not take place during statutory holidays.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Development of Science Camp programs for children aged 5-13
- Prepare excellent STEAM programs in line with the relevant BC school curriculum
- Train and support in the delivery of camps programs
- Produce relevant training materials
- Mentor camp leaders and provide ongoing feedback and professional development opportunities for camp program delivery with support from other members of the Experiential Learning team
- Act as Camps Supervisor (In-Charge) during summer, winter, spring and pro-d day camps
- Lead camp team meetings
- Schedule and supervise camps staff in the delivery and smooth running of the camps program
- Provide basic first aid to campers (training provided if required)
- Assist with emotional and behavioural support of campers to support the camp leaders in smooth classroom management and program delivery
- Assist with the set-up and take-down of lab spaces for program delivery
- Support the operations and logistics Jr Camp Leader program including training and onboarding
- Workshop delivery to external and internal groups as required
- Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role

**Qualifications**:

- BA or MA in science, technology, education, engineering, mathematics or a related field or equivalent work experience
- Experience working for a cultural educational or camps organization (preferred)
- Leadership or supervisory experience (preferred)
- Familiarity with the BC curriculum
- Proven experience in teaching/program delivery in a formal or informal environment
- Prior experience working with the public
