Our plan is to ensure that people throughout British Columbia, especially under-represented communities, have access to high quality, informal STEAM learning. Through our onsite, online and outreach programs, Science World seeks to spark curiosity and wonder in STEAM and support development of talent across communities in the province.

**Position Description**:
Working as part of the Experiential Learning team, the Experiential Learning Specialist will support the development and implementation of the Future Science Leaders (FSL), a multi-year, science-enrichment program for youth that utilizes hands-on skill-building activities to learn about cutting-edge research, academic theory, and industry opportunities. The Experiential Learning Specialist, FSL Year 1 will lead the Year 1 program (100 Grade 10-11 students; 4 classes of 25 students) in its design, delivery, and administration.
This position works closely with the FSL Program Manager to carry out a successful program. From planning sessions, preparing resources for sessions, managing online learning platforms, facilitating weekly sessions, and communicating with students and parents, the Experiential Learning Specialist ensures the program is a success.
This position requires an enthusiastic, efficient, independent, and creative individual with a passion for mentoring enthusiastic high school students. The Experiential Learning Specialist must be comfortable instructing high school students in STEM at a university level. Flexibility and confidence are required to work in this highly collaborative team.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Program Delivery**
- Teach and deliver weekly lessons in science communication, conducting a research project, and other technical skills as needed
- Support and facilitate lessons delivered by FSL part-time staff and guest instructors in different STEAM fields
- Enable the success of students in their work by implementing weekly assignments, providing students feedback, and offering support both in 1 on 1 and in small group situations
- Ensure professional communication with students, caregivers, coworkers, and guest instructors/speakers
**Program Development**
- Work with FSL team to develop lessons, student projects, and assignments to meet program goals, while adapting curriculum to changing environments and student feedback
- Meet with guest instructors to plan their lessons and provide feedback to ensure they meet FSL lesson requirements. Support guest instructors with logistics (materials, space, setup, schedule, and payment)
- Develop and maintain relationships with contacts interested in being guest instructors, guest speakers, or field trip hosts
**Program Administration**
- Act as the main FSL Year 1 Program contact for 100 students and caregivers
- Coordinate the necessary logistics (equipment, consumables, space, setup) to ensure each program session runs smoothly
- Work with the Program Manager and Brand & Marketing team to implement a student recruitment strategy
- Support the planning, collection, and preparation of photos and program statistics for parents, funders, marketing, and year-end reports
**Other**
- Assist in the organization and delivery of FSL events such as the Winter Science Night, Spring Showcase, and field trips
- Work with the FSL Manager to find additional opportunities for students within your field (e.g. volunteer opportunities, field trips, workshops)
- Operate within the philosophy, culture and values of Science World
- Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role
**Qualifications**:
- Completion of an undergraduate STEAM degree with research and leadership experience in the field. Graduate-level/post-baccalaureate credentials is an asset
