Job Summary
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), with accountability to the CCTG Director for Faculty staffing, the Human Resources and Staffing Operations Leader will lead the Human Resources and Staffing functions at the Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG). The Leader is responsible for a range of Human Resources and Staffing activities in support of the administration and operation of the CCTG and works in accordance with university policy and legislative requirements. The incumbent contributes to strategic directions and annual operating planning, supports employee labour relations matters, as well as employee wellness and associated initiatives within the Group.
The incumbent works closely with the CCTG Director, and Queen’s University Central HR and Faculty of Health Science Staffing Office, to oversee and support all aspects of the academic faculty employee lifecycle within CCTG. The incumbent provides support to the Director on current procedures and expectations and Human Resources policies.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Strategic Directions and Operating Planning
- Leads Human Resources planning, in collaboration with COO, Finance Manager, and CCTG Managers. Contributes to and ensures alignment with strategic and annual operating planning processes for the CCTG. Leads preparation of reports and materials required for review and approval by the CCTG Central Office Executive Committee (COEC) to inform Human Resources decision making.
- Participates in the development of short and long-term plans or strategies for CCTG by providing expertise on relevant issues or concerns. Regularly consults with central HR and other central university services for complex issues or unique situations.
- Proactively monitors industry trends to identify opportunities to enhance CCTG HR Strategy. Makes recommendations to the CCTG leadership group and leads implementation of new Human Resources initiatives.
- Promotes a culture of inclusion that embodies CCTG values, advocates the value of diversity to others and takes action to increase diversity in the workplace. Provides guidance on strategic practices aimed at promoting equity, diversity and inclusion through all CCTG activities.
- Fosters an inclusive, supportive and welcoming work environment for individuals with diverse backgrounds and identities.
- Ensures strategic recruitment includes a focus on equity, diversity, inclusivity, indigenization, and accessibility within the CCTG in collaboration with the EDIIA Lead and CCTG Managers. Provides support as the Equity Representative on competitions where required. Prepares/contributes to strategic recruitment planning through use of the Queen’s University DEAP framework.
Faculty Staffing
- Leads CCTG Faculty recruitment activities including CCTG Senior Investigators, Biostatisticians, and any Fellows, Post Docs, or Students that join the CCTG. Provides guidance on the current expectations for recruitment and ensures compliance with Queen’s University and FHS expectations.
- Works closely with the FHS Staffing Office and Faculty Relations, to ensure timely and accurate administration of academic-specific processes, such as recruitment, renewals, tenure eligibility, promotion, academic and negotiated leaves, leaves of absence, retirements, reduced periods of responsibility, immigration and compensation.
- Coordinates the recruitment process for academic faculty ensuring adherence to the Collective Agreement and the Senate policies and processes; ensures clinical faculty recruitments adheres to hospital guidelines.
- In collaboration with CCTG Director establishes and disseminates processes for triaging faculty-related requests.
- Identifies immigration requirements and is the primary contact in CCTG for addressing and resolving issues to ensure legislative compliance.
- Leads the onboarding process for all CCTG Faculty Fellows, Post Docs, and Students. This includes working with the Faculty Supervisor to prepare a letter of offer, ensuring review by Queen's FHS, and establishing and executing an onboarding plan with the Faculty Supervisor including training and equipment needs.
- Attends/member of the CCTG Education Committee led by Education Director. Facilitate seamless transition from the committee to recruitment/onboarding of the CCTG Faculty Fellows, Post Docs, and students.
