**Social Worker**
**Term Date: ASAP to November 12, 2026, or the day before the employee who is**being replaced returns to work**
**Salary Range**:$66,906.27** to**$90,520.25**
**Location: Henlow Campus**
**Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (35 hours/week)**
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Student Services, Financial Aid & Awards, the Social Worker is responsible for providing counselling and personal support services for MITT’s diverse population of secondary and post-secondary students. Working as part of an integrated student services team, the MITT Student Social Worker provides psycho/social, personal, and academic supports to MITT students so that they can achieve their education and career goals.
**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:
Counselling/Social Work
- Provides personal and academic counselling directly to individual MITT students which may also include referrals to external agencies and off-campus resources. The counselling/social work approach emphasizes the importance of personal planning and responsibility, mental/physical health; academic and career readiness, as well as adapting to professional work culture and demands.
- Leads the development and delivery of individual and group resources for students which takes into consideration students’ personal, emotional and social needs within the context of MITT’s program requirements, policies and student expectations.
- Leads the ongoing development and delivery of an overall student counselling and mental health strategy, as well as paying specific attention to the needs of specific sub-categories of students (college v. high school; domestic, international; Indigenous, mature, etc.).
- Develops and delivers small and large group workshops related to student mental health, stress/anxiety; transition topics (school to work, teen to adult, etc.); parenting, relationship and family issues.
- Is the department lead on student crisis/emergency intervention and resource development relating to Mental Health First Aid, suicide prevention, sexual violence prevention/support. This may include developing and delivering resources for other MITT departments and/or making recommendations on training and policy.
- Works closely with the Student Services Manager and other departments to review and address MITT’s ongoing student support and counselling needs relative to local and national trends in student counselling and campus mental health.
- Maintains a regular schedule for student drop-in meetings and appointments.
- Performs student intake assessments and takes referrals from Student Advisors and other areas of the college.
- Establishes and maintains supportive, professional mentorship roles with students as appropriate.
- Responsible for writing and maintaining client notes and student files according to all applicable privacy legislation, MITT policies, and best practices of the Manitoba College of Social Workers.
General
- Provides information and referrals to students regarding off-campus social services and supports, advanced education and training opportunities, and career-readiness and employment.
- As part of the larger MITT Student Services team student advisors, this position is responsible for developing, planning, and delivering student orientation events and other public presentations throughout the school year.
- Responsible for developing, coordinating, and leading student engagement activities for students as required and in collaboration with the MITT Student Life department. Student engagement projects may include topics related to social work/counselling (i.e. student mental health), or more of a general interest to this position as an on-campus initiative or project.
- Organizes and maintains accurate and up to date student files and counselling notes, program files, and other MITT administrative records.
- Maintains knowledge and proficiency in all MITT administrative and student records systems.
- Participates in professional development opportunities.
**Required Qualifications and Experience**:
A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
- Bachelor of Social Work is required.
- Must be registered with the Manitoba College of Social Workers.
- 3+ years’ work experience in a clinical or post-secondary school environment providing risk assessment, counselling, or other relevant services to diverse populations of clients is required.
