Assistant Controller

**Position Overview**

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for managing the monthly and quarter end financial close. Working closely with the rest of the Corporate Finance & Accounting team, the Assistant Controller will be a source of financial expertise by assisting with the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports while ensuring internal controls are followed. The role is based at Head Office in Langley, BC.

**Core Job Functions**

The following are core job functions and may change depending on the need of the company:

- Management of monthly and quarterly reporting deliverables
- Coordination with finance groups and auditors on financial reporting, budgeting and audits
- Overview of Canadian and US sales tax filing
- Support office admin on corporate AP functions including review and approval of vendor set up
- Review and management of bank reconciliations
- Review and support the preparation of Audit working papers
- Management of Accountants, Accounting Clerks, and Office Admin

**Communications**

Working in close coordination and cooperation with all levels of management, operating unit personnel and external auditors, the Assistant Controller ensures all interactions focus on excellence in customer service and are a positive reflection of highest company standards.

**Internal**:

- Internally, this role will communicate with all levels of management within multiple locations in Canada and the US, as well as administrative and accounting staff inside of head office.

**External**:

- Externally, this role communicates with the following:
Ø External Auditors

Ø Tax Authorities

Ø Government Bodies

Ø Insurance Companies and Agents

**Education**
- Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA or equivalent)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent

**Qualifications**
- Minimum of five years progressive accounting experience, ideally with a public reporting company or in public practice.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal across all levels of the organization.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience working with ERP systems in a multi-currency environment
- Experience preparing complex consolidated financials using excel
- Exceptional time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines
- Strong sense of urgency
- High degree of critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
- Ability to adapt to a fast paced, high growth environment
- Experience in a public company is an asset
