**Position Summary**
Child Care Consultant works collaboratively in the Toronto community to provide services to designated licensed childcare centers, for children (aged 0 - 12) with special needs. The services delivered by the Consultant help support and promote an inclusive child care system.

**Compensation**
64,538 per annum. This is a unionized position under CUPE.

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Carries out consultation regarding individual children through various means including observational visits, screening tools, assessment of strengths and needs.
- Develops and supports the implementation of individual consultation plans, as well as active referral and service coordination.
- Provides workshops, resources and program consultations to child care staff.
- Liaison, support, education and service planning with parents.
- Participates in committees and networks.
- Completes all required documentation as per agency and service requirements.
- Other duties as required.

**Minimum Qualifications and Skills**
- Degree in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Education diploma with Resource Educator diploma (or equivalent) or CYW; and 2 years related experience (i.e. special needs).
- Registration in good standing at the College of Early Childhood Educators.
- Skills and experience in working with infants, preschool and school-age children with various types of special needs, such as developmental delays, ASD, social/emotional and behavioral difficulties
- Experience with and awareness of the child care community.
- Demonstrated abilities in the screening/assessment of child and family needs, documentation of individualized goal plans with strategies, as well as in case management and active service coordination.
- Demonstrated ability for program planning to address specific issues.
- Demonstrated skills in offering workshops to parents and professionals.
- Sound knowledge of child development and behaviour guidance.
- Experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds.

**Mental Effort**
- Listening and mental attentiveness in dealing with customer or public queries, and manager's requirements.
- Mental effort required in multi-tasking and handling interruptions that require constant refocusing.

**Physical Effort**
- Some of the work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment, mostly sitting, while other parts of a work day will be in child care settings and/or travelling to and from child care centres.
- Likely performs computer work daily.

**Working Conditions**
- Governed by concurrent and dynamic deadlines, despite conflicting priorities and frequent interruptions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Extensive travel to child care centres (daily) or other community locations.
- Occasional travel to CDI locations.
- Fast-paced work environment
- Frequent handling of queries and calls from child care centres, parents, other professionals
- Frequent in-person contact with staff and children in child care settings.
- Some evening work may be required.

**Type of Supervision Required**
Reports to the Manager, Child Care Consultation consults with Manager before making major decisions. Works under general instructions to prioritize and complete assigned tasks. The incumbent works under little supervision while in the community, otherwise regular supervision with manager.
