The Ministry is responsible for: developing and evaluating curriculum; teacher development and certification; supporting students with diverse learning needs; funding and supporting school boards; First Nations, Métis and Inuit and Francophone education; and overseeing basic education policy and regulations.
**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director, Career Education, the Manager, Career Education Curriculum leads the development of K-12 career education curriculum and manages the review of locally developed courses and external learning opportunities.
The Manager ensures curriculum aligns with key policy documents, including the Ministerial Order on Student Learning and the Guiding Framework. They support the development of policies and processes for reviewing and approving locally developed curriculum and external learning, ensuring recommendations meet approval standards.
To deliver on branch priorities, the Manager supervises staff, oversees planning, and ensures curriculum supports equitable learning for all students. The role involves resolving issues related to career education programming, service provider procurement, data sharing, and policy development.
Key challenges include:
- Building consensus among stakeholders with varied priorities, including education and industry partners.
- Implementing efficient processes for internal and external partners.
- Managing competing priorities across multiple projects.
**Responsibilities**:
**1. Manage the development of K-12 career education curriculum.**
- Lead a team to draft curriculum and identify appropriate resources and assessments.
- Conduct research on best practices and emerging trends.
- Advise education partners on curriculum implementation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure curriculum meets partner needs.
**2. Lead review processes for locally developed courses (LDCs) and external learning opportunities.**
- Oversee analysis of proposed curriculum for alignment with guidelines.
- Guide partners through submission and review processes.
- Provide recommendations to support Ministerial approvals.
**3. Support curriculum implementation and resource development.**
- Identify process improvements and support continuous improvement.
- Support professional development and resource delivery for piloting and implementation.
- Collaborate with assessment teams to align curriculum and assessment approaches.
**4. Contribute to branch operations and deliverables.**
- Manage team operations, resources, recruitment, and training.
- Lead decision-making on content, planning, and development.
- Provide strategic advice and prepare briefing materials.
