The Curriculum & Career Education Division leads the development and maintenance of high‑quality K–12 curriculum and career‑focused programming across Alberta, ensuring students have clear pathways from school into post‑secondary opportunities and the workforce. The division provides strategic leadership, develops provincial standards and learning resources, and integrates diverse perspectives - supporting safe, inclusive, and future‑ready education for all Alberta students.

*Role Responsibilities*

  • Program, policy and curriculum development
  • Gather stakeholder input to inform policy, programming and curriculum.
  • Research, analyze, and synthesize evidence to support program development/implementation.
  • Provide specialized advice on curriculum/program implementation; develop guidance and supports for partners.
  • Advise on seamless transitions across grades/levels and from high school to post secondary/workplace.
  • Branch operations & project management

  • Develop analyses, business cases, briefing notes; lead detailed project plans; design and deliver professional learning.

  • Support team operations, including human and financial resources (contracts/grants) and, where required, supervise Interchange Participants.
  • Collaborate on content, processes, research, and planning; advise on issues/opportunities.

  • 3) Stakeholder engagement & curriculum support

  • Operate with significant autonomy while engaging school authorities, teachers, students, parents, partners, and community leaders to inform programming decisions.

  • Interact with senior leaders to promote career based initiatives (e.g., Alberta Dual Credit Framework, Off Campus Education Handbook).
  • Build teaching capacity for curriculum, resources, courses, and assessment; monitor curriculum for continual improvement; involve diverse communities (e.g., First Nations, Métis, and Inuit, Francophone)

  • Information requests & correspondence

  • Triage and study complex information requests; research issues; identify key considerations and recommendations; prepare departmental responses (briefings, materials, correspondence).

  • Problem solving & leadership expectations

  • Provide project management, guidance, and mentorship; build consensus among parties with multiple perspectives; make strong, accountable decisions to implement the Alberta Dual Credit Framework; lead/coordinate advisory and validation committees; collaborate across divisions/ministries

Qualifications
Education

  • Master's degree in a related field and 5 (five) years of Experience

OR

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 7 (seven) years of related experience.

Expert Knowledge

  • In depth understanding of career based programming in senior high school, including philosophy, history, and current research.
  • Knowledge of school authority structures and policies, including provincial accountability systems and teacher involvement in curriculum development.
  • Understanding of administrative structures of school authorities, teacher organizations, post secondary institutions, and business/community partners.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development models and trends in curriculum/technology development.
  • Expertise in the theory, principles, and practices in career education to ensure high quality curriculum design.
  • Understanding of organizational culture and leadership theory.
  • Strong familiarity with departmental policies, including those governing curriculum development and implementation.
  • Ability to work within key legislative and policy frameworks such as:

  • Ministerial Order on Student Learning,
  • POPA (Previously FOIP Act)
