The Librarian 1 is responsible for helping create and maintain positive and welcoming services in Millennium Library’s Community Connections. The Librarian plans, delivers, and evaluates the programs and services of Community Connections. The Librarian also provides information services, helps people learn about and navigate library and community resources, plans and participates in programming, and trains and supervises staff. Hours of work will include evening and weekend rotations.
**As the **_Community Connections Librarian, _**you will**:
- Provide responsive and inclusive information services to library users of all backgrounds.
- Assist customers in the use of the Library’s resources, collections, services and technologies.
- Supervise the Community Connections staff including scheduling, timekeeping, directing staff workflow, establishing priorities, providing feedback, and handling contentious issues.
- Compile statistics, evaluate services and prepare reports and grant proposals as assigned.
- Plan and deliver specialized services and programs for the library’s diverse customers, including scheduling of social service agencies in Community Connections.
- Provide orientations and training to staff and Community Safety Hosts on Community Connections and its resources, and safe work procedures.
- Provide public tours, presentations and staff development orientation sessions as required.
- Participate in collection maintenance and selection as required.
- Contribute to public awareness of Community Connections by helping develop promotional materials and creating displays as appropriate.
- Participate in outreach initiatives.
- Participate on system committees and manage special projects on topics of anti-racism and anti-oppression, and as assigned.
- Perform other duties consistent with the classification, as required.
**Your education and qualifications include**:
1. A Master of Library & Information Sciences (MLIS) degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). An MLIS degree obtained internationally through a formally accredited institution may also be considered
2. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent client-centered customer service.
3. Demonstrated ability to plan and supervise the work of others and to work effectively as part of a team.
5. Demonstrated ability to plan and provide quality programs, tours, user instruction and make public presentations.
6. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of staff and customers.
7. Must possess a good general knowledge of library services as well as knowledge of current affairs and trends.
8. Strong planning and organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a stressful environment.
9. Ability to effectively promote the library and its services, programs and collections.
10. Knowledge of trauma-informed library services is an asset.
11. Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the area of work.
12. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
**Conditions of employment**:
- The successful applicant will be required to complete job specific training for this position.
- Lived experience within a First Nation, Métis or Inuit Community is an asset.
