**Position Summary**
The Cultural Liaison will work closely with teachers, students and the school community to infuse Cree cultural perspectives into all aspects of the school experience.
**Job Duties/Responsibilities**
- collaborating with teachers to embed Cree and other Indigenous knowledge systems into classroom curricula
- leading and organizing traditional cultural teachings, ceremonies and activities including sweat lodges, round dances and seasonal feasts
- assisting in the preparation and facilitation of school-based and community ceremonies such as drum-making, rattle-making and the creation of Indigenous artifacts
- providing trauma-informed guidance and counselling to students who are experiencing difficulties
- organizing and leading land-based education activities such as hide-tanning, hunting, traditional plant knowledge and other activities that connect students with the land
- developing and supervising after-school and lunchtime programs that foster student engagement with Cree culture, sports and other extra-curricular activities
- mentoring students in leadership skills, helping them to strengthen their cultural identity
- working with local elders, knowledge keepers and community members to provide authentic teachings and ceremonial guidance advocating for the inclusion of Cree language and culture within the school, promoting cultural pride and understanding among all students and staff
**Education/Qualifications**
- high school diploma plus a one-year post-secondary program of studies
- a minimum of one year of related experience including land-based education and cultural teachings
- knowledge of Cree protocols, customs and Indigenous history specific to the Treaty 6 region
- background in Indigenous arts and crafts
- strong communication and relationship building skills fluency in Cree language
**Rate of Pay**
$31.53 - $40.16 per hour
