At this time, the **Halifax Port Authority (“HPA”)**requires:
**Safety Coordinator Term (6 months)**

This short-term role is responsible for providing ongoing support to the HSE Department. They will assist with on-site safety assessments, and other various HSE related tasks to help advance critical projects and initiatives to stay on course with our HSE 2025 objectives.

This role will help support the HSE Department to ensure that focus on existing projects and initiatives is maintained, and that on-site technical safety knowledge is available for the planning and review of activities across the Port.

Working in collaboration with business units across HPA, the position will support HPA staff to ensure OHS best practices are followed. The position will act as a liaison with Port Stakeholders, Contractors, Regulatory Agencies and industry resources/service providers to ensure the commitments of the HPA SMS are met.

**ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Support the development and delivery of information relating to the HPA Safety Management System including HPA developed “Safety Training” content to HPA staff, and where applicable, HPA Stakeholders, contractors, and visitors. Through direction and collaboration with the Sr. HSE Manager, the development and delivery of HSE content will focus on creating content to be used in the development of digitized materials for online distribution. This will require direct understanding of industrial safety regulations and educational learning concepts to organize information for delivery.
- Provide assistance to HPA Procurement to ensure the principles of the HPA SMS are followed; this may include but is not limited to reviewing procurement, tendering documents, and project proposals.
- As directed, conduct other operational safety activities, not limited to safety assurance inspections, safety orientations, job briefings, and lead other port and public safety events and other initiatives as required of the position.

The term role demonstrates and promotes the adherence to HPA's Safety and Health & Safety Standards and will incorporate OH&S Policy proactively across all areas of HPA operations. Proactivity is crucial to this position to promote a culture of continuous improvement for internal staff, port stakeholders and members of the public. The Position works closely with all levels of staff to provide information and coaching to effectively and safely conduct their tasks.

The scope of these activities are related to the entirety of HPA's managed and leased lands, buildings, critical infrastructure, jurisdictional waters, and marine facilities, including the Halifax Seaport, Ocean Terminals, Richmond Terminals, and the Seaport Cruise Vessel Facility including surveillance and oversite of Fairview Cove and South End Cargo Terminals and the Staff and Stakeholders within these locations under the direct influence of HPA as it pertains to the HPA Safety Management System duties and responsibilities.
