Museum and Heritage Services at the City of Toronto is a unit within the Economic Development and Culture (EDC) Division that is responsible for preserving, interpreting, and sharing Toronto’s diverse history. The unit manages ten historic sites and museums across the city, curates exhibitions and public programs, and oversees the City’s artifact and fine art collections. Museum and Heritage Services plays a vital role in promoting understanding of Toronto’s past, present and shared futures with residents and visitors alike through engaging heritage and cultural experiences.
Museum and Heritage Services is hiring a Coordinator, Policy and Programs to provide project management and strategic support on a range of priorities, projects, initiatives, and issues, and to support the goals and objectives of Museum and Heritage Services. Reporting to the Manager, Museums (Strategic Initiatives and Policy), the Coordinator is someone enthusiastic to plan and implement the unit’s policy, programming, and community-centred initiatives, in support of the City's Culture Connects: An Action Plan for Culture in Toronto (2025-2035) and other corporate priorities.
**Major Responsibilities**:
- Implements detailed plans and initiatives and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
- Conducts research into assigned areas ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.
- Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
- Identifies priorities and develops appropriate responses and recommendations within the division on confidential issues such as service planning, strategic planning, etc. that could impact staffing levels, resource allocation, or organizational structures.
- Coordinates and manages the implementation of identified projects and programs and provides ongoing tracking and follow-up on actions identified in divisional and corporate plans.
- Deals with confidential and sensitive information affecting the division related to corporate and divisional programs, polices and strategies.
- Liaises with senior management and divisional staff in the coordination and implementation of the division's various plans, policies and strategic programs.
- Designs divisional action plans for operations and practices, and develops strategies/policies/programs to achieve approved time frames and technical requirements.
- Identifies and recommends project options with short/medium/long term implementation periods.
- Liaises between the division and other divisions across the City, with respect to divisional and operational programs and issues in order to establish, maintain and develop linkages to other divisions, agencies and boards to ensure effective partnerships within the corporation.
- Communicates regularly with all operating areas of the division, to facilitate and inform senior management on matters which require attention, both orally and in writing.
- Leads and coordinates special projects/programs as assigned, including reporting on assigned projects/programs.
- Researches and reports on a range of new projects and initiatives as they arise.
- Represents the Division; fosters, and works collaboratively to maintain close and effective, working relationships with other staff in the division, vendors and non-profit organizations, staff from other City divisions and other levels of government, consultants, and members of the public or other groups as appropriate.
- Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates divisional programs.
- Organizes seminars, events and communication material as required.
- Develops and/or facilitates presentation material.
**Key Qualifications**:
- Post secondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function (Museum Studies, Arts, Heritage and Culture, Economics, Sociology, Political Science,) or an approved combination of education and experience.
- Considerable experience with diverse communities in partnership with a variety of stakeholders including youth, seniors, LGBTQ2S, newcomers, BIPOC, people with varying abilities, community groups, volunteers and artists.
- Considerable experience in formulating, developing, implementing and evaluating the outcomes and impact of initiatives related to inclusive culture sector development, particularly within a municipal context.
