**About Us (What We Do)**
The Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter (CAWES) is a not-for-profit organization that provides support to women and children fleeing domestic violence. Beyond being a 40-bed emergency shelter, CAWES provides crisis intervention, safety planning, case management, outreach services, and child support services. The shelter is in the process of expanding to better meet the needs of survivors of domestic violence in Central Alberta. The new shelter, which is due for completion later this year, will include 50 emergency beds and 40 secure transitional housing units.
We are looking for a dynamic **Crisis Worker**to make a direct and positive impact on the lives of vulnerable women and children.
CAWES is governed by CUPE Local 417.
**Crisis Worker Job Summary (What You Will Do)**:
The Crisis Worker plays an integral role within the team, contributing to the success of CAWES by promoting client well-being, independence, and resilience. Crisis Workers possess comprehensive knowledge related to intimate partner violence, risk assessment, safety planning, intersectionality, and harm reduction. A motivated self-starter, the Crisis Worker demonstrates initiative and consistently undertakes the following responsibilities:
- Contribute to the work and success of the organization by providing trauma-informed, strengths-based support to women and children who have experienced domestic violence.
- Proactively engage in daily shelter operational activities and client-centered case management, including goal development planning.
- Act as an advocate for clients by connecting them with relevant services and resources (Including housing, medical, financial options, etc.).
- Provide telephone support, assessment, and crisis intervention for all women seeking assistance.
- Actively engage with clients including admitting, orienting, and scheduling regular appointment times to assist clients in setting and attaining their goals.
- Maintain accurate case files, documentation, and records in accordance with the organizational and legal standards of best practice.
- Engage in ongoing learning and professional development.
- Deliver culturally appropriate and trauma-informed psycho-education on domestic violence and the cycle of abuse.
- Deliver crisis intervention including conducting comprehensive safety plans with clients in relation to intimate partner violence, mental health and substance use, both formal and informal as needed.
- Provide information and accurate referrals as appropriate, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of community resources and shelter programs.
- Comply with all policies and procedure of CAWES to ensure the shelter functions smoothly and efficiently.
- Advocate for social justice and reducing barriers to women and their children in accessing services.
- Other duties as required.
**Qualifications (What You Bring)**
- Degree/Diploma in Human Services, and two years' experience working with women and children experiencing family violence who may have complex needs. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Eligibility for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers or an equivalent licensing body is preferred.
- First Aid Level C with CPR & AED
- ASIST preferred
- Criminal record with vulnerable sector check and child intervention records (completed within the last 6 months)
- Comprehensive knowledge of intimate partner violence and family violence.
- Risk assessment and safety planning capabilities required.
- Strong knowledge of community resources and case management strategies.
- Non-judgmental and empathetic.
- Dedicated to the pursuit of social justice.
- Confidentiality is an absolute requirement.
- Must have the ability to work as part of a team in a high stress environment.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Personal suitability.

Pay: $25.67 per hour
Schedule:
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Night shift
- Weekends as needed
