At Mike's Communications, you will play a crucial role in supporting the installation, maintenance, and improvement of our telecommunications infrastructure.

This hands-on position requires a detail-oriented, quick learning individual with a strong work ethic and a passion for delivering high-quality service while honoring safe work practices.

A Mike’s Communications Field Technician performs general duties that include but are not limited to the installation of fibre optic cable from the placed terminal (pole or pedestal)to the side of the home, assisting the construction crew with pedestal installation and shore end work and assisting the submarine crew with laying submarine cable in various body's of water across Muskoka. Other duties include assisting the Crew Lead with readying the trucks for the day and preparing the appropriate tools and equipment skillfully and properly for the jobs at hand.

**Responsibilities**:

- Perform physical tasks such as spurring poles, climbing ladders and utilizing a variety of construction equipment to assist in the installation of fibre optic cables, mounting equipment and assisting with setting up various telecommunication components.
- Support the team in upgrading and expanding telecommunication systems to meet current and future needs.
- Trenching and burying cables where necessary using various equipment such as vibratory plows, walk behind plows or by hand, restoring landscaping and gardens upon completion; including asphalt cutting where required.
- Read and interpret plans or job work orders to execute all work assigned safely and in accordance with both Mike’s Health and Safety Policy and the IHSA’s Electrical Utility Safety Rules.
- Maintain, organize and clean the tools, equipment and shop environment; assist in procuring materials from various vendors.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and report any issues or concerns to supervisors.
- Assist the Crew Lead in achieving or surpassing daily meterage targets

**Qualifications**:

- Ability to lift and carry up to 80lbs.
- Ability to get to and from work without issue.
- Must be willing to work in unfavorable weather like rain and snow.
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures.
- Able to complete the necessary on the job training for courses included but not limited to: Working at Heights, Traffic Control Person and Flagging, First Aid and Electrical Safety Awareness before the end of their probationary period and then pass the corresponding examinations.
- Previous experience in a labour-intensive role, preferably in the field of telecommunications or related industries, is an asset but not required.
- Basic understanding of telecommunication systems and equipment is an asset but not required.
