**Function/Purpose**:
This position is responsible for the management of the administrative and/or operational City of Red Deer employees working to support RCMP operations and administration. This position must lead a culture of customer service excellence, making timely decisions and balancing priorities of the City of Red Deer and the RCMP in their joint efforts to facilitate a safer community. The position develops and recommends strategic objectives to increase operational and process efficiencies and improve effectiveness of the services provided by this section. The position also oversees employee development and performance management. Other administrative responsibilities include contract negotiations & administration, budgeting, adherence to related municipal, provincial and federal legislation as well as all requirements of the Government of Alberta Justice and Solicitor General department, RCMP “K” Division, and the Provincial and Federal Courts.

**Job Requirements**:

- Two year diploma in a related filed. (University degree would be considered an asset
- A thorough knowledge of relevant federal, provincial and municipal legislation and regulations.
- 8 years’ experience in a municipal, legal process or policing environment with a strong knowledge of all areas.
- 5 years Supervisory experience, (unionized experience would be an asset)
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

In addition to the 9 Core Competencies identified for all employees of the City of Red Deer - the following are specific to this position:

- Must pass and maintain Enhanced Security Clearance with the RCMP
- Demonstrated skills in dealing with both exempt and unionized staff and contractors.
- Possess above average leadership qualities, and communication skills both written and oral.
- Ability to resolve conflict during controversial situations and lead by example.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with appointed and elected officials, staff members, labour unions, the public and the media.
- Ability to write detailed and comprehensive reports.
- Display strong planning and organizational skills in co-ordinating multiple activities to accomplish goals and using resources effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to plan, manage and respond to change.

**Working Conditions**:

- Regular office environment hazards.
- Subject to receiving calls after hours at home.
- Work irregular hours including shift work/or evenings if required.
- Subject to times of high stress levels

**Affiliation**: Exempt

**Remuneration**:$51.03 to $63.79 per hour.

**Hours of Work**:75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
