The Opportunity:The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for two (2) Police Communications Operators to fill casual positions. The Police Communications Operators are primarily the first point of contact for all incoming telephone calls (non-emergency and administrative) into the RCMP detachment from the public, Municipal Enforcement Officers, and all other third party clients. The position utilizes and is responsible for maintaining all relevant police databases, computer related software and communication devices. The purpose of this role is to triage all requests for service to determine the appropriate follow up or action required and plays a critical role in Municipal Enforcement Officer safety.As our preferred candidate, you will have:Grade 12Must have 3 years’ of direct related experience in a Police communications environment; may consider 3 years’ related experience in emergency communications.National RCMP Telecommunications Operator Course would be an asset.Ability to pass RCMP Security Clearance prior to receiving an offer of employmentMust maintain RCMP Security Clearance throughout employmentAbility to type 50wpm accuratelyMust be able to satisfactorily complete tested course in RCMP PROS User Course, RCMP CPIC Maintenance Course, RCMP Records Information Manager Course, National Telecommunications Operator CourseMust be able to satisfactorily complete Police Communications Operator trainingMust be able to work shift work, including evenings and weekends.Affiliation:Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 417Remuneration:$34.65 to $36.69 per hour.Hours of Work:Hours of work will be as scheduled, with no minimum guarantee. Shifts scheduled Monday to Sunday between the hours of 6:45 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. including Statutory Holidays.Additional Information:Must successfully pass a stringent RCMP Security Clearance before commencing employment.
