- Reporting to Regional Manager, the Caretaking Team Leader is responsible for supervising the delivery of caretaking and maintenance services to schools and facilities within a designated region. _
- The Caretaking Team Leader will: _
- _Provide leadership and direction to caretaking and maintenance staff; _
- _Ensure schools and centres are safe, clean and well-maintained, and ensure plant equipment is free from interruptions and unscheduled downtime; _
- _Ensure community partnership and liaison is maintained with all who use TDSB facilities, including students, parents, staff and the community; and _
- _Work closely with other team leaders and Plant Operations & Community Use staff to ensure seamless services and ensure services are provided in a timely and cost-effective manner. _

**Summary of Duties**:

- Responsible for the supervision of caretaking and maintenance staff on either the day and/or afternoon shift;
- Provide leadership, motivation and facilitating team building to improve productivity;
- Participate in the development and facilitation of professional development programs for staff;
- Participate in interviews and make recommendations in the hiring of staff;
- Prepare performance reviews and evaluations, provide solutions to enhance performance, and determine disciplinary action where appropriate;
- Respond to and resolve labour relations related issues, in accordance with collective agreement provisions, policies and procedures, and in consultation with Employee Services;
- Establish client requirements through meetings with Facility Team Leaders, principals and caretaking staff;
- Participate as a member of school leadership teams to proactively address issues related to Plant Operations;
- Liaise with caretaking and maintenance staff to ensure facilities are clean, safe and well-maintained;
- Administer the acquisition, distribution and use of resources;
- Report on conditions, activities and problems to regional management, and respond to emergency situations;
- Monitor all building service contracts within responsibility to ensure maximum effectiveness and adherence to specifications;
- Conduct site visits to monitor and evaluate effectiveness of operations, and inspect work to ensure the outcome meets objectives;
- Ensure work processes are documented and followed and work outcome meets stated objectives;
- Ensure appropriate standards are developed and followed for continuous improvement and quality initiatives in service delivery;
- Promote continuous improvement in service delivery processes;
- Make recommendations for improvements to plant equipment and systems;
- Respond to inquiries from both within and outside TDSB, including questions and concerns raised by the community;
- Conduct effective meetings, establish networks for information-sharing, and prepare reports to various stakeholders;
- Evaluate and recommend purchases of new equipment;
- Promote safe work practices to ensure the health and safety of staff and students, in accordance with applicable legislation (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act);
- Participate on various Plant Operations
- and Board-wide committees (e.g., health and safety, staffing, energy management);
- Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services;
- Act as back-up in absence of the Facility Team Leader; and
- Other duties as assigned.
- Three year community college certificate in a relevant discipline and certification in a recognized property management program (e.g., F.M.A., C.P.M.) with five years of relevant experience within a large multi-site, multi-union environment in a property management capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Caretaking, maintenance and construction knowledge and skills;
- Supervisory experience with strong leadership, mentoring and team building skills;
- Demonstrated ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with others;
- Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
- Conflict resolution and mediation skills;
- Understanding and working knowledge of related policies, procedures and collective agreement provisions, government regulations, legislation and building codes;
- Ability to proactively deal with community concerns;
- Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity; and

**Special Requirements**:

- Provision of own vehicle for Board business.
- Requires regular travel across the TDSB.Available on call evenings and weekends to respond to issues and emergency situations
