The Marketing Assistant is responsible for delivering daily activities of social media, website and membership marketing initiatives. This includes activating marketing strategies, providing tourism information and resources, tracking marketing media metrics and data. This position writes various contributions for release and marketing materials, while keeping informed of marketing trends and strategies. As a key part of the Marketing and Communication team, this individual works closely with our community partners and members, in promoting Red Deer and region.

**Role, Responsibilities and Key Performance Areas**:
Marketing: (50% - 60%)
- Creates, schedules, and manages social media content marketing and reports on analytics to the Manager
- Regularly engage with relevant social accounts, including commenting, liking and sharing
- Creates, schedules, and manages content for website and events calendar including blogs and maintaining membership content
- Activates marketing strategies and applies it to all digital, social, and traditional media platforms including radio, television and print media
- Provides tourism industry with relevant and timely tourism information and resources to our targeted stakeholders utilizing various communication tools including itineraries for visitors
- Assists in the marketing/storytelling of new experiences developed.
- Assists in setting up news conferences and works with the media for the marketing initiative at hand.
- Works with team members in distributing required media assets for industry stakeholders or media.

Writing: (30% - 40%)
- Writes creative blogs, content for Tourism Red Deer website, and visitor guide
- Assists in writing press releases and marketing material
- Writes promotional, social media and digital media content
- Creates monthly content for social media strategy, blogs and communicate to contractors

Research: (10% - 15%)
- Assists in conducting market research and analysis as required including reporting on social media analytics
- Keeps abreast of digital technologies impacting marketing collateral & communication development, records, and accessibility
- Research current events in central Alberta
- Assists in conducting polls and surveys stakeholders, as needed.

Projects and Assignments (5% - 10%)
- Works with internal team members and external members of Tourism Red Deer for planning and execution of projects, events and team assignments.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma (Marketing, Media, Broadcasting and or Communications are preferences). A combination of education and experience may be considered.

**Experience**:

- Minimum 1-3 years previous experience: end-to-end content capture creation, editing, and publishing
- Experience and a strong understanding of all marketing measures including social media platforms, and website content
- Demonstrated experience with strong creative writing skills for press releases, blog stories, website, and social media content

Certification:

- Valid driver’s license and proper insurance is required for using your vehicle

Competencies (skills, abilities, knowledge):

- Marketing: able to identify, anticipate and fulfil members' needs using traditional and non-traditional marketing techniques. Experience in social media as well as developing and implementing marketing campaigns would be considered an asset.
- Communication Skills: possesses both strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience developing effective presentations for various audiences would also be considered an asset.
- Teamwork and Interpersonal Skills: able to effectively work with teams from different areas to achieve a common goal or objective.
- Leadership: able to think strategically, solve complex problems, and make informed decisions, while nurturing staff.
- Creativity / Innovative: ability to use ‘outside the box thinking,’ tell our story in a unique way, and challenge the status quo.

Working Conditions
- May be required to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time
- Must be flexible to work some nights, weekends, and holidays
- Local travel within Red Deer and region will be required
