**Canada West Veterinary Specialists**(CWVS), a privately owned and operated, multi-disciplinary emergency and specialty hospital is looking for an exceptional Patient Care Assistant to join our Internal Medicine department.

The first veterinary specialty hospital in Metro Vancouver, CWVS is a state-of-the-art Level VECCS level 1 and VetCOT certified facility. We have 30+ veterinarians in the following disciplines: emergency and critical care, surgery, neurology, radiology, internal medicine, and oncology. In addition to a rehabilitation department, 6 ORs, 2 isolation wards, and a newly redesigned ER, ICU, and Wards, we are equipped with 2 digital radiology suites, a new CT, and a 1.5T MRI.

The **Internal Medicine Patient Care Assistant** is responsible for assisting the Specialist and Technician as required, participating in client communications under the supervision of the Specialist, and liaising with other services to ensure the smooth functioning of the Service within the hospital.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES**
- Coordinates admissions and discharges of patients to the Service
- Greet and offer assistance to clients
- Responsible for ensuring daily communication with clients as well as facilitating communication between clients and hospital medical team
- Willing to go above and beyond to exceed client expectations
- Assists in restraining of patients so that internal medicine procedures can be effectively performed by the Specialist or Technician
- Executes follow-up calls for all discharged patients
- Ensures procedures are documented on the ICU sheets so that accurate invoicing can be done
- Ensures all equipment is properly maintained and documented
- Ensures supply inventory is sufficient to meet the demands of the Service
- Responsible for keeping patient exam room and work spaces clean and organized
- May be asked to assist in patient monitoring under the supervision of the Specialist or Technician
- May be required to assist in other areas of the hospital as needed. This could involve working any shift within the twenty-four-hour operating day of the hospital including weekends and holidays
- Help facilitate a positive work environment
- Performs other duties as required

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**
- Strong organizational skills and ability to recognize and establish priorities
- Must be willing to become knowledgeable of equipment and processes specific to the Internal Medicine service
- Ability to remain calm in an emergency
- High level of professionalism
- Excellent communication skills
- Competent animal restraint and handling
- Full understanding of taking radiographs
- Experience and understanding of preparation of patients for procedures, sterile techniques etc.
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in high-paced environment
- Good working knowledge of current client and patient software (Ezyvet and Smartflow) is an asset

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**
- Graduate of an accredited program for Veterinary Assistants or equivalent experience preferred
- Customer service experience is an asset

**WORKING HOURS**
- This position is based on working 10-hour shifts, 4 days per week, from 8:00 am until 6:30 pm.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $21.00-$26.00 per hour
