Mine Technician

Established in 1989, NSS has been a trusted partner to the mining industry as a Leica reseller and exclusive distributor of the Miner Operated Survey System (MOSS). We are expanding our technical services to provide comprehensive support for both new and existing clients in the mining industry and beyond.

**Position Overview**

We are seeking a **Mine Technician **with experience in both open-pit and underground mining operations. Based in Sudbury, this role involves regular travel, with a schedule dependent on client requirements. You will rotate between various operations and support clients with MOSS implementations and customer service. A strong background in mining and geomatics is essential.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Surveying & Data Collection**:_
- Conduct open-pit and underground surveying, including installing and maintaining survey controls.
- Operate geomatics equipment (e.g., GPS, Total Stations) to collect accurate data for mapping and analysis.
- Perform aerial drone surveys to capture site data for projects.
- Provide accurate line and grade information to construction and mining crews.
- **Data Processing & Reporting**:_
- Process survey data and ensure accurate interpretation for project needs, including preparation of month-end reports.
- Utilize GIS software for mapping, data visualization, and analysis.
- **Project Collaboration & Technical Support**:_
- Collaborate with engineers, geologists, and other personnel to ensure successful project execution, including conducting QA/QC to meet project standards.
- Provide technical support for MOSS system implementations and ongoing customer service.
- **Ventilation & Safety**:_
- Perform ventilation support tasks, including weekly audits, surveys, and updating related documentation.
- **Expansion & Miscellaneous**:_
- Assist with expanding services to civil, construction, and other sectors as required.
- Perform other duties as needed to support department operations.

**Qualifications**:

- **Education**_:_
Diploma or degree in Engineering Technology, Mining Engineering, Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field.
- **Experience**_:_
- 1-3 years of experience in mining operations, specifically related to surveying and data collection.
- Experience with MOSS is considered an asset.
- Experience with Leica Geosystems and products is considered an asset.
- Experience with aerial drones, with a pilot license being an asset.
- **Technical Skills**_:_
- Proficiency in using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Deswik) for mapping, visualization, and data analysis
- Deswik experience considered a strong asset.
- Familiarity with 3D mapping and modeling techniques.
- **Soft Skills**_:_
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work alongside engineers, geologists, and other project stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a dependable and self-starting attitude.
- **Other Requirements**_:_
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required by the role.
- French-speaking is considered an asset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment, both underground and on the surface.
- Commitment to safety protocols and industry best practices.

Pay: $30.00-$45.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
