- One (1) full-time seasonal position from March 25 to January 11, recalled annually.
Northern Airports and Marine Operations acts as the lifeline for remote communities in Northern Manitoba, allowing the transportation of medical patients and essential supplies such as food and medication. Marine Operations provides ferry services to the communities through a highly skilled workforce that adheres to regulatory standards to ensure safety and uniformity with provincial, federal, and international regulations.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must have a valid Class 5 licence with the ability to upgrade to a Class 3 with training provided.
- Must be able to work at heights, outside in all seasons or in unfavourable climate conditions, and in enclosed or confined spaces.
- Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and statutory holidays as required.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Basic knowledge of the operation and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
- Experience in facility operations and maintenance.
- Experience with computerized facility maintenance management systems.
- Basic knowledge of and experience with hand and power tools.
- Demonstrated knowledge of WHMIS, workplace safety and health act, related regulations and federal legislation, and safe work practices.
- Effective written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
Desired:
- Experience operating heavy equipment or machinery.
- Experience with carpentry and woodworking, including command of various tools and the ability to interpret blueprints and schematics.
**Duties**:
The Maintenance Assistant assists in the maintenance, inspection, repair, and modification of all passenger and vehicle ferries and related crew quarters, buildings, docks, and other ferry landing facilities, as well as the equipment associated with those repairs, as directed by the Marine Superintendent.
