**Salary**: $ 3,241.74 to $4,362.44 bi-weekly ($ 84,609 - $113, 859 /year)

Childhood Services (ECS) through Grade 12. Share your talent, your leadership and your success as you shape the future of education in Alberta. The Ministry provides funding to over 300 provincial school authorities for ECS to Grade 12, within the Financial Services and Capital Planning Division.

**Role Responsibilities**:
The Policy Manager is responsible for providing strategic support, policy development, and advice to the Field Services sector, the Program and System Support Division, and senior leaders as required.

This position regularly raises issues, provides analysis and recommendations, and crafts policy documents in relation to Field Services' operational policies and programs. The position may also be called upon to provide additional policy and project capacity for other areas of the division. The manager supervises one policy analyst who provides advice, research, and writing capacity to support policy development within Field Services.

The manager performs the following tasks:

- Develop operational and program policy for Field Services-related programs and initiatives.
- Coordinate skills-related policy discussions within the branch, sector, division and, where necessary, across divisions.
- Develop policy manuals and guidelines, and provide workshops and one-on-one consultation and coaching for sector staff on policy development, GoA policy approvals and decision-making processes.
- Support branch and sector staff in understanding legislation, policies and procedures, and related requirements through communications and coordination of regular internal meetings.
- Write and develop cabinet memos, briefings, and associated materials.
- Work with department program areas to identify, develop and coordinate briefings, background documents, correspondence and recommendations for consideration by senior leaders and officials, ensuring materials are accurate, comprehensive and consistent.
- Analyze and review issues and related information to ensure briefings are comprehensive and have the appropriate information to enable strategic decisions to be made about initiatives.
- Develop integrated policy processes to ensure that policy proposals are consistent, mutually reinforcing, and support business plan goals.
- Evaluate policy development initiatives by determining the adequacy of their objectives and acquiring feedback from peers on the effectiveness of integrated policy
- Provide strategic advice to sector staff on advancing initiatives through the government decision making process. **Qualifications**:
University graduation in a field (Public Administration, Social Sciences etc.) related to the position assignment, supplemented by three years related experience.

Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis. Depending on the applicable statutory or unique requirements of the position, specific qualifications may apply.
