The Appeals Secretariat is a neutral government body that administers the appeals process for Albertans appealing decisions on social services they receive or applied for to the Citizen’s Appeal Panel (CAP). The CAP is a neutral adjudicative tribunal providing fair, impartial and independent hearings to Albertans. The Secretariat provides support to CAP and parties to an appeal ensuring a timely and fair process for Albertans.
**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director, Appeals Secretariat, this position is responsible for ensuring an accessible appeal process by providing strategies and leadership in the development of policies to assist the CAP in fulfilling its mandate - conducting fair impartial hearings in accordance with the principles of natural justice and administrative law.
As the Manager, Appeals Policy and Administration, you will develop and implement policies and procedures for appeals, ensuring alignment with legislation, mandate, and internal operational procedures; adopt strategies to ensure the conduct of CAP members are ethical and uphold the integrity and fairness of the appeal process; and provide leadership in the analysis of appeals data for evidenced based decision-making.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Providing guidance in the appropriate governance and administration of CAP to ensure consistency of appeal hearings across Alberta;
- Developing, implementing, and improving policies, procedures, and standards to enhance and support the appeal process and appeal hearings;
- Consulting with legal counsel and other stakeholders on appeals issues, including resolving escalations and critical issues to ensure a fair and accessible appeal process; Assisting with the overall management and effectiveness of the Appeals Secretariat.**Please**

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in a related field (such as public policy, public administration, law, related social sciences discipline or equivalent), supplemented by four years related experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
