**Salary**: $2,626.89 to $3,448.73 bi-weekly ($68,561.83 - $90,011.85/year)

As the Ministry of Forestry and Parks we are responsible for fostering Alberta’s environmentally responsible forest management practices, including management of wildfires. We preserve our provincial parks for the recreation and enjoyment of Albertans. As well as enabling access to public lands for recreational and commercial purposes while prioritizing conservation. Forestry and Parks also manages public lands and balances sustainable rangelands and grazing leases for Alberta producers.

As a key part of the Forest Stewardship and Trade Branch within the Forestry Division, you would play a pivotal role in advancing high-impact policy initiatives that align with government standards and priorities.

**Be at the Centre of Forestry Policy Development**

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of research, legislation, and operational policy. You would act as the vital link between technical experts, legislative planners, and government policy specialists, ensuring that Alberta’s forestry policies are informed, strategic, and effectively implemented. From managing the policy development lifecycle to providing expert advice on legislative processes, this position is central to driving coordinated, timely, and forward-thinking forestry policy across the province.

The key responsibilities include:

- Developing and maintaining forestry policy inventories and tracking systems.
- Coordinating policy review schedules and staff training initiatives.
- Analyzing forestry issues and synthesizing research to inform policy direction.
- Preparing briefings, reports, and decision-making documents for leadership.
- Aligning forestry policy development with broader departmental frameworks.
- Participating in interdepartmental committees and working groups.
- Implementing project management practices for policy initiatives.
- Conducting environmental scans on national and global forestry trends.
- Drafting project plans, progress reports, and policy-related documentation.

**Qualifications**:
Education and Experience: A degree in public policy,political science and public administration, forestry, environmental science or a related discipline plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Assets:

- Previous work in public policy.
- Project management experience.

**Notes**:
This is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday. There is an opportunity to work overtime for wildfire operational support.

Travel within the area and throughout the province will be required as part of your responsibilities to coordinate with Ministry staff and colleagues, other government departments, clients, and other external stakeholders.
