We are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee all financial and accounting operations. This is a dynamic, hands-on finance role that collaborates closely with Store Operations and partners with the Head office & Corporate teams to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting to key stakeholders. As part of a relatively flat organization, you'll be working alongside colleagues at all levels to drive success and exceed expectations. The Controller will ensure the financial health of the company, provide strategic financial guidance, and lead the accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements
- Analyze financial performance, including variance analysis against budget and prior periods, and provide insights to senior management.
- Prepare Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A) to explain financial results to leadership and external stakeholders.
- Oversee year-end financial reporting, including coordination with external auditors for the annual audit.
- Develop and maintain cash flow models; partner with store management to optimize financial metrics and drive business decision-making.
- Support store operations, by providing financial insights and guidance to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, working with department heads to ensure that financial targets align with company goals.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and other statutory requirements.
- Stay updated on changes to accounting laws and regulations, and ensure the company adheres to them.
- Streamline financial processes to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and ensure that reporting is accurate and timely.
- Foster a collaborative work environment to promote efficiency and morale within the finance team.
- Report financial results and other key performance indicators (KPIs) to stakeholders such as investors, board members, and lenders.
- Serve as the point of contact for external auditors, tax authorities, and other regulatory bodies.

- Extensive experience in preparing monthly financial statements, with a keen understanding of financial analysis.

- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; proficiency with financial modeling and reporting.
- Experience with computerized accounting systems; knowledge of Acceo/ProfitMaster is an asset.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Retail experience is considered an asset.
