**Group Controller Position**

**Overview**

The Group Controller is responsible for ensuring that each of the Auto Group’s dealerships Controllers maintain successful completion of accounting functions for financial reporting. The Group Controller oversees the Controller’s daily activities ensuring the financial and accounting functions of the dealerships are timely, accurate, and compliant with regulatory guidelines, GAAP, company policies and OEM requirements. The Group Controller takes direction and is accountable to the Auto Group’s Executive team. The Group Controller will also work on company operations with the Executive team with reporting, analysis, problem solving, and decision making.

**Qualifications/Skills Required**
- Exceptional multi-tasker and time manager; organized
- Accounting experience with automotive accounting and reporting functions
- Post Secondary Degree and CPA designation
- Expert knowledge of accounting, financial processes, and full cycle accounting (budgeting, financial statements, reporting etc)
- Experienced leader mentor and coach
- Advanced proficiency with Excel is a must have
- Working knowledge and experience with financial data analysis is a must
- Working knowledge of federal and provincial tax compliance regulations and reporting
- Ability to adapt, undertake multiple tasks and respond to changing priorities is imperative.
- Experience with CDK, Reynolds or PBS is an asset
- Diplomacy, tact and confidentiality in dealing with a variety of people and information.
- Ability to find solutions and resolve conflict
- Excellent communicator with exceptional oral and written skills
- Exhibits sound judgment, empathy, and integrity
- Full understanding of regulations, laws and required compliance in the Automotive Industry including HR policies and procedures

**Primary Responsibilities**

As the Group Controller, you will work with Controllers to oversee the general day to day functions of accounting.
- daily accounting activity and transaction processing
- timely and accurate financial reporting

- Provide practical advice and insights to Controller and Executives as required
- Share your expert knowledge to develop the skills of Accounting Team members
- Write (or have written) the playbook on sound accounting practices and efficiencies
- You will develop and maintain policies, procedures and adequate internal controls in compliance with company policies, best practices and legislative guidelines
- Be responsible for participating in the development and execution of changes to the accounting process while providing the necessary support to Controllers.
- Analyze financial statements and guide new Controllers to a better understanding and ability to analyze the information for themselves
- Develop and prepare routine management reports for performance assessment and decision-making
- Ensure that Controllers meet all financial reporting deadlines with comprehensive, accurate, and complete data and GL accounts are routinely reconciled, accruals are appropriate and aging schedules are reviewed
- Review journal entries, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, floor plan, bank transactions, A/R, A/P, payroll expenses, intercompany transactions and filings to ensure they are accurate and meet regulatory compliance
- Assist General Managers in the development of annual strategic planning and forecasting
- Work with Controllers to identify cost savings opportunities, cash flow issues, and methods to communicate the information to management.
- Assist Controllers in the completion of all working papers for internal and external audits for the group
- Preparation of weekly trending meetings to present and update financial information for Tableau
- Calculate, monitor and prepare debt covenant documents for lenders
- Consult Executive Management on accounting operations to recommend areas for improvement
- Prepare Controllers for Year End
- Understand and follow company on boarding and off boarding processes
- Follows all current company policies, processes and procedures;
- Comply with any WorkSafe requirements, and safety protocols;
- Support of all other dealership operations including Fixed Operations and Sales to promote cooperation and a team environment;
- Undertake all other tasks that may be delegated to you under the supervision of Executive Managers and Maintains professional appearance
