Chief Junior Captains’ Camp Leader makes key decisions for the camp's operation regarding activities, resources and conflict resolution, including resolving any concerns raised by parents or campers. They will communicate with parents, the Executive Director and Programming Coordinator, plan the camp’s daily activities and schedule, manage and delegate tasks to the Assistant Junior Captains’ Camp Leader. They will ensure adherence to safety guidelines and child protection policies, and conduct risk assessments for activities.

Both leaders will work together to ensure the smooth execution of the camp schedule, foster a positive attitude for maritime culture and the environment, and lead by example.

**Responsibilities**

**Leadership and Oversight**:

- Plan, organize, and oversee the camp's daily activities and schedule.
- Manage and delegate tasks to the Junior Captains’ Summer Camp Assistant and volunteers.
- Ensure all activities align with the camp's goals and safety protocols.

**Decision-Making**:

- Make key decisions regarding activities, resources, and conflict resolution.
- Adapt plans as necessary to accommodate unexpected challenges (e.g., weather changes).

**Safety and Compliance**:

- Ensure adherence to safety guidelines and child protection policies.
- Conduct risk assessments for activities.

**Communication**:

- Liaise with parents, guardians, and Exec Director and Programming Manager.

**Problem-Solving**:

- Handle emergencies or behavioral issues among campers.
- Resolve disputes or concerns raised by parents or campers.

**Skills/Experience**
- Experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting is essential.
- Background in early childhood education is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with children, parents, and staff.
- Ability to plan, organize, and execute activities that are both fun and educational.
- Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with diverse groups of children.
- Comfort around marine environments (rowing, on docks, etc.)

**Desired Qualifications**
- Must fit Canada Summer Jobs criteria (Be between 15 and 30 years of age **at the beginning** of the employment period, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_ for the duration of the employment and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada)
- Preference for a student studying a related field (education, early childhood education, Child and Youth Care, etc.)
- Experience and excitement around working with Children in a recreational setting

The start date, number of weeks and hours of work are negotiable and dependent on grant funding which is yet to be determined.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal
Contract length: 10 weeks

Pay: From $21.20 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week

Flexible language requirement:

- French not required

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

**Education**:

- Secondary School (preferred)

Work Location: In person
