**Junior Captains Summer Camp Assistant**

Junior Captains’ Camp Assistant will support the Chief Junior Captains’ Camp Leader and primarily interacts with campers. They will assist in managing the children during activities, meals, and transitions, and serve as a role model for campers, ensuring inclusivity and engagement, and will report safety concerns or incidents to the Chief Leader. They will support the activities by accumulating and setting up necessary materials as directed, and by providing one-on-one guidance to campers who need extra support.

The Assistant will work to ensure the smooth execution of the camp schedule, foster a positive attitude for maritime culture and the environment, and lead by example.

**Responsibilities**
- Assist in leading specific camp activities, games, and workshops.
- Help organize materials and equipment for planned activities.
- Monitor campers during activities, meals, and transitions between events.
- Provide individual attention to campers needing extra support.
- Follow and enforce safety rules.
- Report any concerns to the chief leader
- Collaborate with other Chief Leader to execute the camp’s plan.
- Assist in managing group dynamics and encouraging positive behavior.

**Skills/Experience**
- Experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting is asset.
- Background in early childhood education is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with children, parents, and staff.
- Ability to plan, organize, and execute activities that are both fun and educational.
- Comfort around marine environments (rowing, on docks, etc.)

**Desired Qualifications**
- Must fit Canada Summer Jobs criteria (Be between 15 and 30 years of age **at the beginning** of the employment period, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_ for the duration of the employment and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada)
- This position could be suitable for a responsible and nurturing high school student.
- Experience and excitement around working with Children in a recreational setting

The start date, number of weeks and hours of work are negotiable and dependent on grant funding which is yet to be determined.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 10 weeks

Pay: $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week

Flexible language requirement:

- French not required

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

**Education**:

- Secondary School (preferred)

Work Location: In person

Expected start date: 2025-06-20
