Manager of Resource Management

**The Position**
The Manager of Resource Management is responsible for overseeing the operations and delivery of the Nation’s Salmon Enhancement Project, Aboriginal Fishing Strategy and Forestry and Natural Resource Programs. This leadership role ensures that programs are planned, resourced, and executed effectively, in alignment with community values and regulatory requirements.
**Note**: This is a full-time term position to cover an extended leave of absence.
- Develop and implement annual program plans for salmon enhancement, fisheries, and forestry.
- Manage traditional food (e.g., seafood and elk).
- Coordinate staff scheduling and task delegation to ensure efficient program delivery.
- Manage and allocate program resources effectively.
- Prepare and submit detailed summary reports to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), Province of BC and the shíshálh Nation.
- Manage external contracts such as the BC Hydro and DFO.
- Maintain accurate records, including budgets, purchase controls and filing systems.
- Complete all documentation and forms required by DFO and other regulatory bodies.
- Oversees the allocation of shíshálh Nation fishing and hunting licenses.
- Provides guidance to community members and Nation staff on protecting, monitoring and enhancing natural resources in the swiya according to shíshálh Nation values and traditional knowledge.
- Circulate program information to staff and stakeholders.
- Act as the primary liaison with local hatcheries and related external organizations.
- Represent the Nation in public and professional forums related to resource management.
- Oversee and maintain program budgets, ensuring responsible use of funds.
- Manage equipment and supply use, ensuring accountability and maintenance.
Note: Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position as requested and required.
**Qualifications, Skills and Abilities**
- Fisheries or Environmental Technician certification or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of shíshálh Nation values and traditional knowledge.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) or compatible software.
- Experience managing teams.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Primarily office-based with extended periods at a computer workstation.
- Periodic fieldwork required.
- Possession of a valid BC driver’s license and access to a reliable car.
- Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
