Veterinary Assistant/receptionist

**Job description**
As a Veterinary Assistant at Delton Veterinary Hospital, you will play a crucial role in assisting our veterinary professionals in delivering exceptional care to our animal patients. You will work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, providing essential support in various aspects of veterinary medicine and clinic operations.
**Responsibilities**:
1. **Animal Handling and Care**:
- Assist with the handling and restraint of animals during examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
- Ensure the comfort, safety, and well-being of animals under your care.
- Feed, exercise, and provide basic care for in-house animals.
2. **Clinic Maintenance**:
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in animal care areas, exam rooms, and surgical suites.
- Assist in sterilizing and preparing surgical instruments.
- Monitor and restock inventory of medical supplies and medications.
3. **Client Interaction**:
- Greet and assist clients, providing exceptional customer service.
- Communicate basic information about treatments, medications, and post-care instructions to clients.
- Schedule appointments and manage client records using our clinic's software.
4. **Laboratory and Diagnostic Support**:
- Prepare and label laboratory samples for analysis.
- Assist in diagnostic procedures such as taking X-rays and running basic lab tests.
- Maintain accurate records of patient data and test results.
5. **Assisting Veterinarians**:
- Prepare examination rooms and surgical suites for procedures.
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
6. **Emergency Response**:
- Be prepared to assist in emergency situations, including patient triage and first aid.
**Qualifications**:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting is preferred but not required.
- Strong passion for working with animals and promoting their well-being.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle and restrain animals in a calm and compassionate manner.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and scheduling.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and procedures.
- Physical ability to lift and carry moderately heavy objects and animals when necessary.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime as needed.

**Salary**: $16.00-$18.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
