**Child Protection Worker (A-B-C) - Black Services Unit 1**

**Temporary 12 months Opportunity - English Position**

NOTE: For the purpose of this posting, the primary function of the vacant position has been identified. The scope of work for positions identified as Family Services Worker Intake, Family Services Worker Ongoing and Child Services Worker requires flexibility between the roles. Case assignment will be based on operational requirements and determined by the supervisor.

**The Position**:
Provides investigative and protection services with a focus on serving Black children, youth and families within the framework of an Afrocentric model to service delivery and the established procedural guidelines and time frames as provided by both the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and the Society. This responsibility is performed through appropriate consultation with the supervisor.

The incumbent is also required to maintain client records in accordance with Society and Ministry Standards including contact logs, investigation documentation, assessments, outcome plans, social histories and other required reports. The worker will also prepare appropriate legal documents for cases going before the courts, according to Society and Ministry guidelines. The incumbent will work with Black youths and families and will be required to work a flexible work schedule to respond to and/or meet the client need and the Society's organizational requirements.

**Qualifications**:

- _ _BSW, MSW or Bachelor’s degree in a related field with relevant work experience;
- 2 years experience working with children and families;
- Strong Knowledge of Child and Family Services Act (CFSA), Ministry standards and guidelines related to child protection and Society policies and procedures;
- Demonstrated work to combat racism and/or discrimination within the child welfare context;
- Demonstrated work that has challenged the legacies of colonialism;
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively work and engage with Black children, youth and families;
- Demonstrated knowledge and respect of Black culture, heritage and the historic relationship between child welfare and the Black community;
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the culture, history and current oppressions experienced by people related to gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation faced within the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities;
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the culture, history and current oppressions experienced by the Black community;
- Applies anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-colonialism, anti-heterosexism and anti-cissexism lenses to social problems;
- Knowledge of the community resources and services;
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
