**) AV Services Technician**. This position is responsible for providing a wide range of Tier 3 audiovisual and related IT technical support services for BCIT’s main and satellite campuses. The AV Technician II’s main duties consist of: providing advanced technical advisory services; technical programming of AV equipment, handling escalated calls for technical assistance with regards to installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of AV equipment, systems and peripheral services; demonstrating equipment operation to faculty and staff; commissioning and advanced diagnostics; contributing in establishing AV equipment standards; taking a lead role in the RFP process by making purchasing and infrastructure recommendations and liaising with Facilities, ITS, SSEM and other departments or external vendors in an advisory capacity for maintenance and incident resolution purposes.**Duties & Responsibilities**

**Programming and Advanced Technical Support**:
- As the Subject Matter Expert (SME), sets-up, operates, and troubleshoots a variety of Audio Visual equipment.
- Performs maintenance and advanced repair of a variety of Audio Visual equipment (e.g. circulation, staging, classroom equipment, etc.) such as:
- Laser projectors, document cameras, flat panel TVs
- Control systems and related hardware
- Videoconferencing equipment, webcams, etc.
- Performs client needs assessment, conducts demonstrations and provides instructions for clients.
- Delivers orientation and instruction for utilizing new technologies.
- Assists in defining and planning the optimum integration layout of various AV equipment set-ups, including:
- assembly/disassembly and combinations of video monitors/projectors/ carts
- advanced design, installation, and integration of AV equipment with computer equipment in instructor workstations, mobile installations (e.g., smart carts, smart shop carts, etc.)
- positioning or integration of AV workstations/podiums and equipment into workshops, classrooms, etc.
- advanced configuration and programming of AV control systems (e.g., Extron)
- occasionally performing various hardware installations.
- Modifies AV systems to better meet end user’s needs by:
- providing advanced configuration and programming of AV control systems (e.g., Extron, AMX, QSC, AV over IP systems)
- assembly/ disassembly of installations
- replacement of hardware
- ad-hoc installation modifications for integration of new AV equipment, computer equipment, instructor workstations, etc.
**Advisory & Department Planning**:
- Makes equipment purchase recommendations to AV Project Coordinators, Operations Supervisor, Equipment Coordinator and/ or Purchasing department.
- Liaises with Purchasing and takes a lead role in all tender or RFP processes.
- Contributes in an advisory capacity as the technical SME on relevant committees for the purpose of planning long-range AV needs.
- Conducts market research of new equipment; keeps up to date on advancements and trends in the field and makes viable recommendations for future installations and modifications with an anticipatory and proactive lens.
- Evaluates AV equipment and vendors to determine relevance and viability with Institute needs.
- Provides recommendations, training and advice to technical staff & end-users in the appropriate selection and operation of AV equipment for Institute purposes.
- Considers Building Code, Fire Codes, WorkSafe regulations, etc. and makes relevant recommendations.
- Liaises with Facilities, ITS, SSEM, other BCIT departments, and external vendors when resolving support issues, or in an advisory role.
- Updates and maintains equipment usage instructions for equipment, rooms and website information for distribution including liaising with suppliers, manufacturers, web content coordinators and end users.
- Works with technical writers to produce written instructions for installed equipment for posting to the BCIT Knowledge Base.
- Acts as the designated AV contact/coordinator for specific vendor installation activities as required.
- Coordinates and supports IP videoconferencing.
- Provides expertise on AV capital expenditures and purchases.
- Makes equipment purchase recommendations to AV Operations Supervisor or Technical Liaison.
**Customer Service**:
- Respond to a wide variety of escalated and/or complex audiovisual requests, inquiries, and service calls from faculty, staff, and students throughout the many campuses.
- Uses help desk software to log, manage, and follow through on help requests to achieve successful resolution as Tier 3 support person.
- Monitors and handles cell phone calls to facilitate ad hoc trouble-shooting assignments.
- Facilitates the entry of inventory data and work orders to check data on equipment.
