BCIT’s
- **LTC** department is currently seeking a
- ** temporary, full-time** (1.0 FTE)
- **AV Services Technician**. This position is responsible for providing a wide range of audiovisual and related IT technical support services for BCIT’s main and satellite campuses. Duties include installation, trouble-shooting and maintenance of multiple product lines such as overhead projectors, multimedia projectors, analog and digital audio and video equipment, laptop computers and circulating mobile computer carts, AV control systems, staging of special events, demonstration of equipment operation, remote system monitoring and playing a functional security role. The AV Service Technician also provides technical support and equipment services for meetings and special events on and off campus.**Duties & Responsibilities**

**Customer Service/Technical**:
Outgoing:
- Performs client needs assessment, and demonstrations or instruction for clients as required
- Ensures all equipment is in good operating order prior to the client taking possession of the equipment
- May assist in delivery and set-up of equipment
- Delivers orientation and instruction for utilizing new technologies
- Incoming:
- Performs a check of equipment for any errors, malfunctions, service problems, missing items, upon its return
- Diagnoses equipment problems and determines best means for repair
- Checks integrity of laptop operating system and files, digital camera memory cards and various other equipment add-ons upon their return

**Customer Service/Booking**:

- Provides timely and effective customer service to faculty, staff, and students
- Performs inventory checks to facilitate the circulation process

**Customer Service/Trouble-shooting**:

- Responds to a wide variety of audiovisual requests, inquiries, and service calls from faculty, staff, and students throughout the many campuses. For example:

- data projector malfunctions
- overhead projector problems
- laptop / projector / control system issues
- malfunctioning microphones, camcorders, document cameras, control systems, ‘clickers’ (CPS hardware and/or software), televisions, etc. 2
- Monitors and handles cell phone calls to facilitate ad hoc trouble-shooting assignments
- Facilitates the entry of inventory data and work orders to check data on equipment
- Uses help desk software (e.g., Cherwell) to log, manage, and follow through on help requests
- Liaises with other institute departments and vendors

**Customer Service /evenings and weekends**:
As the assigned AV technician supporting part-time studies during weekday late afternoons/evenings and/or Saturday:
- Acts as the main contact for AV Services with potential for a flexible or modified schedule

**Technical Maintenance**:

- Sets-up, operates, and troubleshoot s a variety of Audio Visual equipment
- Maintains AV workshops including day to day tidiness, requisitions for new or replacement tools, equipment and supplies
- Performs routine maintenance and minor repair of a variety of Audio Visual equipment (e.g. circulation, staging, classroom equipment, etc.)
- Performs client needs assessment, and if required, conducts demonstrations and/or provides instructions for clients.
- Performs various installations (e.g., hardware, software, programming) and assists in defining and planning the optimum integration layout of various AV equipment set-ups including:

- assembly/disassembly and combinations of video monitors/projectors/carts
- design, installation, and integration of AV equipment with computer equipment in instructor workstations, mobile installations (e.g., smart carts, smart shop carts, etc.)
- positioning or integration of AV workstations/podiums and equipment into workshops, classrooms, etc
- AV control systems (e.g., Crestron)
- Liaises with ITS network services and other personnel
- Updates and maintains equipment usage instructions for equipment, rooms and web site information for distribution including liaising with suppliers, manufacturers, web content coordinators and end users
- Acts as the designated AV contact/coordinator for specific vendor install activities as required
- Coordinates and supports IP videoconferencing
- Provides expertise on AV capital expenditures and purchases; Makes equipment purchase recommendations to AV Operations Supervisor/Technical Liaison

**Staging of Special Events**:
Special event staging requests are requested through the AV Lead Technician or Operations Supervisor/Technical Liaison. Staging assignments may occur at BCIT Burnaby or at off-campus locations such as satellite campuses, graduation in Willingdon Church, and various other ad hoc situations.
