**HEALTH & SAFETY COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Position Summary**

The Health & Safety Coordinator will be an advocate for continuing to promote a strong health and safety culture; by providing support to the Construction Safety Officer in the areas of onboarding of new hires, maintaining health and safety documentation and assisting with training and other health and safety initiatives.
The Health & Safety Coordinator will have a strong understanding and knowledge of provincial (WorkSafe BC) and federal OHS legislation, and effective communication skills.
This person reports directly to the Construction Safety Officer, working closely with the Superintendents, Foremen and Project Managers.
**Key**Duties and Responsibilities**
Work shall include but not necessarily be bound by the following:
- Policies and Procedures: Maintain and develop safe work procedures and policies, keep the Health & Safety manual current, maintain forms and records in the safety management software and distribute health & safety alerts, bulletins, and weekly toolbox talks.
- Safety Plans: Assist with the development of site-specific safety plans and procedures.
- New Worker Orientation: Conduct FIT tests and health & safety orientations.
- Inspections: Perform formal site inspections.
- Health & Safety Committee: Co-chair the monthly health & safety meetings, prepare the monthly agenda and meeting minutes.
- Injury Management: Assist with incident reporting, maintaining injury statistics, assisting with conducting investigations and administering the return-to-work program.
- COR Certification: Assist with preparation of supporting documentation for the annual COR audits for both the maintenance years and recertification years.
- Safety Supplies: Maintain inventory of safety equipment and supplies.
- Toolbox Talks: Prepare and distribute weekly Toolbox Talks/safety meeting.
- Health & Safety Initiatives: Organize and promote health & safety initiatives, such as Pink Shirt Day and Construction Month, to raise awareness and encourage safe practices among employees.
- Communication: Serve as a point of contact for health & safety-related inquiries and provide guidance and support to employees.
**Education and Experience Requirements**
- In-depth knowledge of OH&S regulations
- Occupational Health & Safety Diploma, Certificate or CSO/NCSO Certification, preferred
- Minimum of one year experience as a safety practitioner
- Experience in the electrical field would be considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 drivers’ license
- Valid First Aid Level 1, 2 or 3
- WHIMIS, Confined Space Awareness, Asbestos Awareness and Fall Protection and Aerial Work Platform certification (or willingness to complete these courses)
- Experience with SiteMax and BuildOps, an asset
