**A Joint Program Supported by Fabmar Metals Inc. (a division of Heddle Shipyards), Confederation College and the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training & Skills Development**

**Program Overview**:
Fabmar Metals Inc. is preparing for our workforce of tomorrow through a strategic partnership with Confederation College to ensure we have enough trained skilled trades to fill our requirements.

This is an opportunity to kick start your career in the skilled trades. If you are looking for a career as a future Welder, then this unique “Earn While you Learn” program is the perfect place to start.

Individuals will be selected and hired to support our Steel Team through full time employment and training. The goal of the program is to give qualified individuals the opportunity to earn income while they study.

**Who Should Apply**:

- Anyone interested in full time employment that is interested in further developing their welding skills and pursuing the welding trade.
- Must be able to attend all education sessions (Tues/Thurs. evenings and Saturdays) per the schedule
- Must be able to work throughout the education period and maintain strong attendance
- High School Diploma
- Previous experience in a construction setting
- Knowledge of welding equipment, tools and various metals is preferred
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions year-round (cold, heat, wind, rain, snow, etc.)

**What you will do**:

- Support a team of welder/fitters by setting up equipment and assisting in the preparation and fitting of materials
- Assisting welders to set up rigs and move them between work areas
- Operate various tools and types of equipment
- Gain knowledge of various types of metals and welding tools and equipment
- Support the Steel Team with general housekeeping and ensuring an ongoing supply of consumables
- Act as a Confined Space Attendant, perform air quality tests, monitor entrances and exits of confined spaces, and communicate with various team members as well as the Confined Space Rescue Team
- Act as a standing Fire Watch for any hot work being performed

This 9 week program provides you with the following:
