Heddle Shipyards is the largest Canadian ship repair and construction company on the Great Lakes. **Position Summary**

The Mechanical Fitter will assemble and install prefabricated parts, rebuild gears, bearings, motors and various machinery. They will manage their workloads and work as a team to ensure all product is completed on time and meets quality standards.

**Duties and responsibilities**
- Remove and reinstall propeller and tail-shafts as per blueprints
- Disassemble and reassemble bearings
- Assemble and remove ship rudders as required
- Fit propeller and tail-shafts as per blueprints
- Main propulsion installations and rudder bearing repairs
- Overhaul and install bow thrusters
- Overhaul and install deck winches
- Overhaul and install steering gears
- Install marine engines, generators and gearboxes
- Install chain and electric hoists as required
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and spec sheets
- Demonstrate flexibility to ensure deadlines are met
- Other duties as required

**Qualifications**
- Minimum of 5 years of professional mechanical trade position
- Strong mechanical aptitude is required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Trade certification is an assist
- Ship repair experience preferred

**Working Conditions**
- Working indoors and outdoors
- May work at heights using scaffolding, man lifts, ladders, etc
- Working in confined spaces that may require the wearing of protective gear such as respirators, SCBA gear, and fall arrest harnesses, etc.
- May be exposed to hot temperatures, inclement weather, noise, fumes and dust depending on job site
- Prolonged periods working in a standing position
- Lifting to a maximum of 80 lbs. Heavier objects may be lifted in conjunction with other employees or equipment
