The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is responsible for the stewardship of the Port of Vancouver, Canada’s largest and most diversified port. Our mandate as a Canada Port Authority, as set out by the Canada Marine Act, is to enable Canada’s trade objectives, ensuring goods are moved safely and responsibly through the Port of Vancouver. The Business Process & Systems Specialist (BPSS) is responsible for assessing, defining and delivery of cross-functional process improvement projects of various sizes and scope, including the identification and deployment of information systems improvements and other technologies if/when needed to enable the targeted improvements. Acts as a liaison between business stakeholders and information solutions teams to ensure business requirements are properly documented and prioritized, as well as ensures system & solution design meets business needs. Coordinates cross-functional teams in mapping out target processes, including preparing problem definitions, facilitating root cause analysis, developing business requirements, work plans functional specifications, as well as designing and executing test plans, preparing documentation and training.

Accountabilities
- Prepare materials and facilitate workshops with cross function business units to document and assess current/new processes, analyze pain points, identify improvements, document, implement change and monitor impact and supports in identifying, defining and establishing process performance metrics
- Effectively employ continuous improvement methodologies and tools (e.g., SIPOC, VOC needs analysis, value stream mapping, A3, 5 Whys, fishbone analysis, SMED, 5S, VA/NVA analysis, 8 wastes, gemba walks, kanban, heijunka leveling, visual management, standard work, poke-yoke, etc.)
- Works with internal and external customers to identify, validate, prioritize and document specific functional business requirements as well as performing fit/gap analysis, conducting operational feasibility studies as needed and manages requirements life cycle
- Conducts and/or facilitates data analysis as part of a business improvement initiative or continuous process monitoring (including developing data collection plans; creating KPIs, run charts or dashboards; developing visual management huddle boards; six sigma analysis, etc.).
- Assessment of system and solution design against original requirements to validate and ensure meet business needs and facilitate collaboration between IT and Business to refine as required.
- Prepare, support and monitor cut-over plans to ensure smooth transition during changes to process and/or systems with mínimal disruption to business.
- Participates in developing/updating training materials and conducting training. Develop and implement training plan when needed. Support development/update of Policies/Directives required for the implementation of a new process and its supporting system.

- Proven in-depth knowledge in defining and implementing continuous improvement & operational excellence projects including the rollout and support of new operational systems and tools.
- Must have strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a quickly changing environ
